Duties and Responsibilities Organizational Setting and Reporting

The United Nations Resident Coordinator Office supports the work of the UN Resident Coordinator (RC) in leading the UN country team in consultations with the Government to define and agree on the UN strategic response to the Government’s development priorities. The office coordinates activities related to common programming including Agenda 2030, joint programmes, joint programming activities and development coordination work. This is done in conformity with the objectives and priorities of the Government, and the mandates and objectives of the United Nations agencies.

The UN Resident Coordinator’s Office in The Gambia is seeking the services of an Individual contractor (Data, Monitoring and Reporting Officer) to provide support to monitoring and reporting of UNCT results under the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation and will report to the Senior Development Coordination Officer, Strategic Planning and RCO Team Leader

Under the guidance and supervision of Head of RCO/Team Leader, the Data, Monitoring and Reporting Officer provides support to RC office operations performing a variety of standard administrative processes ensuring high quality and accuracy of work. The Data, Monitoring and Reporting Officer promotes a client, quality and results-oriented approach and works in close collaboration with the RCO Staff and other UN agencies’ staff to exchange information and ensure consistent service delivery.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

Within delegated authority, the Individual contractor will be responsible of the following duties:

  • Coordinate, monitoring and reporting of UNCT results under the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework.
  • Provide substantive technical assistance to the administration of UNINFO and support the administrator for UNINFO, coordinate the inputs from the UN Country Team into UNINFO and facilitate the development of the One UN Country Results Report.
  • Provide coordination support to inter-agency working groups and UNSDCF Results Groups.
  • Provide substantive technical assistance to the coordination of preparation and review process for Common Country Analysis, Cooperation Frameworks and other planning instruments as needed.
  • Coordinate preparation of presentation materials, background information, drafting speeches for meetings and other events
  • Support in aligning and promoting regional priorities such as UNISS into strategic documents and programmes of UNCT.
  • Provide RCO with the necessary assistance to the Programme Team in the planning and execution of its work plan.
  • Provide administrative and substantive support to consultative and other meetings, conferences, etc., to include proposing agenda topics, identifying and proposed participants, preparation of background documents and presentations, handling logistics, etc.
  • Undertake outreach activities; participates in the development of training workshops, seminars, etc.; participates in and makes presentations on assigned topics/activities.
  • Assist the UN Resident Coordinator and the Resident Coordinator's office on other tasks as requested.

    Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: - Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) in business or public administration, information management, statistics, sustainable development, social sciences, or related area is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Experience: - A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in providing strategic support to research and data analysis, in the context of development cooperation or related area is required.

  • Experience coordinating inter-agency and government groups is desirable.
  • Experience coordinating working groups and providing technical assistance is desirable.
  • Working experience in The Gambia is desirable Language: Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in oral and written English is required.
