This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.

The country focus and cooperation unit (CFC) is part of the office of the WHO Regional Director for Africa. Its mission is to coordinate the political and strategic support proposed by the regional management for the improvement of the performance of WHO country offices. In particular, it ensures that WHO country offices provide quality technical assistance to member country governments and effectively coordinate development partners' efforts to achieve the health-related Millennium Development Goals. To this end, the CFC unit collects strategic information from member countries to enable the Regional Director to make rapid and effective decisions. It also compiles monitoring and evaluation data on interventions carried out by country offices for feedback to country representatives and for information to department directors. Finally, the unit prepares periodic monitoring and reporting tables to report to the Regional Director on the performance of country offices and their level of achievement of the objectives of WHO's General Programme of Work.

Under the direct supervision of the Country Office Performance Monitoring Officer, the UN Volunteer will perform the following tasks: • Develop and maintain digital platforms to improve performance monitoring of WHO country offices in the African region. • Develop tools for the collection and communication of strategic information by country offices to improve the quality of decision-making by the senior management of the WHO Office for Africa; • Contribute to the capacity building of WHO country office staff in the digitization of strategic information; • To develop and maintain a database of African experts in different health fields; • Develop internet platforms to improve communication between the different WHO country offices and strengthen information exchange for better cooperation between member countries.

In addition to the above, UN Volunteers are expected to : • Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading UNV materials, external publications and take an active part in UNV activities, such as getting involved in activities commemorating International Volunteer Day (IVD) on 5 December. • Become familiar with and develop any form of traditional and/or local volunteering at the host country level. • Reflect the type and nature of the voluntary actions they undertake, including their participation in substantive reflections. • Contribute to the writing of articles on field experiences to be submitted for UNV publications/web site, newsletter and press notes, etc. • Contribute to the Host Programme for newly arrived UN Volunteers in the country of assignment ; • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteers or encourage individuals and organizations to use online volunteer services when technically feasible.

A. Level of qualifications : At least Bachelor Degree in computer science, database management or equivalent. Area(s) of qualification(s) : Database development and management, web site development. Knowledge of computer graphics would be an asset. Number of years of experience required: 3 years of experience Essential: At least one year experience should be strongly in data processing and analysis, dashboard development and web page development and maintenance. Desirable: Experience in reporting and communication in an international NGO, inter-governmental organization or UN system agency.

• Skills in website development and use of Share point ; • Proven cyber security knowledge • Mastery of at least one statistical data processing software (SPSS, STATA, Table) (please complete the required information) • Mastery of the office environment: MS Access, Excel, Power Point, Publisher, World

The duty station has relatively stable security situation and access to health services and other relevant recreational and basic necessities, However the post requires traveling and working in areas with conflict and with non-optimal living conditions. However the exposure to the different work environment and the presence of staff motivated to work under such environment provides for an interesting and enriching experience, but also requires a mature level of cultural awareness, as well as more stamina and commitment than elsewhere to make life comfortable and affordable. Therefore, flexibility and the ability and willingness to live and work in harsh and potentially hazardous conditions, involving physical hardship and little comfort, are essential.
