- Proficiency in English and Sinhala and/or Tamil.
- Experience using audio and/or video recording equipment (if necessary).
- Familiarity with ethical guidelines for research involving human participants.
Contract
This is a UNV Community Volunteer contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV Community Volunteer contracts.
The primary objective of this data collection is to gather qualitative data through focus group discussions and individual interviews with school administrators, teachers, parents, and students. Two data collectors should be responsible for each province.
Under the supervision of the National Experts, the Data Collector will be responsible for:
· Recruitment and Scheduling: With the support and guidance of the Ministry of Education and Provincial Education Authorities, identifying and recruiting participants for focus group discussions and interviews according to the pre-defined sampling strategy and plan. This includes obtaining informed consent from all participants.
· Participation in Training: Participating in training for data collectors on research ethics and data collection methodology, including tools for data collection.
· Data Collection: Conducting focus group discussions and individual interviews using pre-approved interview guides and discussion protocols.
· Data Management: Maintaining accurate records of participants, interview dates, and locations, safeguarding the confidentiality and anonymity of all participants and their data, and storing and organizing all collected data securely.
· Transcription: Taking notes during interviews and focus group discussions, transcribing audio recordings of focus group discussions and interviews accurately and promptly into English.
· Reporting: Providing regular updates to the National Experts on progress and any challenges encountered.
· Ethical Considerations: The Data Collector must adhere to strict ethical guidelines, ensuring informed consent, confidentiality, and anonymity of all participants.
· The Data Collector will submit the following:
o Regular progress reports
o All completed audio/video recordings
o Written notes from interviews and focus group discussions
o Transcripts of interviews and focus group discussions
o A final report summarizing the data collection process, including any challenges encountered and suggestions for improvement.

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials.
