OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The mission of WHO's Health Emergencies Programme (The Programme) is to build the capacity of Member States to manage health emergency risks and, when national capacities are overwhelmed, to lead and coordinate the international health response to contain outbreaks and to provide effective relief and recovery to affected populations. The WHE Response division (WRE) is responsible for rapidly detecting and responding to health emergencies while leveraging relevant national and international partnerships, ensuring that emergency-affected populations in acute and protracted emergencies have access to essential health services and that systems are maintained and strengthened in fragile, conflict and vulnerable settings while implementing at scale, proven prevention strategies for priority pandemic/epidemic-prone diseases. The Health Emergency Information and Risk Assessment Department is responsible for identifying new public health events, assessing risks to public health, conducting epidemiological surveillance and field investigations, monitoring public health interventions, and communicating public health information to technical partners and stakeholders.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

During deployment, the duty station may change, and duties may be modified, based upon the technical needs of the Programme.

1.Participates in the acute response team for data visualization and analysis.

2.Assists in the harmonization of the data received at the global level for the emergency.

3. Assist in the preparation, maintenance and upgrading of data collection tools.

4. Contributes to the development and maintenance of tools visualizations and tools to analyse data required for strategic decision making.

5. Attend various project management meetings, participates in relevant activities, ensure predictable follow-up on agreed action points with relevant stakeholders.

6. Assist in assessing need of the team in a participatory manner. Follow up on action points in a timely manner, ensure that the projects are regularly tracked and reported on. Provide relevant information and consolidated feedback to the team members.

7. Assist in facilitating improved information and knowledge management within the team for the purpose of monitoring and evaluation, organizational learning and reporting, with a particular responsibility for maintaining and improving the activities databases.

8. Perform other duties as may be assigned.

Achievement Activities Include: Updated, standardized database of the emergency. Provide direct, consistent and reliable data analysis of data at global level, develop and updated automatized visualization of the data to enable quick outputs of recurrent analysis of the data received at global level.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential:

• A first level university degree in international public health, epidemiology, health science, statistics, or medicine related subject from a recognized/accredited institution.

Experience

Essential:

• 2 years relevant experience in international infectious disease surveillance.
• Proven experience in R, Shiny and XML

Desirable:

• Related experience with WHO, the UN system, health cluster partners, recognized humanitarian organizations or international nongovernmental organization work in the field of outbreaks and/or health emergency response.

Skills

• Demonstrated skills in the development of analysis tools, advanced data analysis, data harmonization and data management.

• Analytical skills and ability to analyze and synthesize information from multiple sources and conduct independent research.

REMUNERATION

WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 48,805 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 3400 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
