The Private Sector Fundraising and Partnerships (PSFP) section within the UNICEF Division of Private Fundraising and Partnerships (PFP) works with National Committees and UNICEF Country Offices to drive income growth. The purpose of the Corporate Partnerships team is to secure financial resources and other valuable assets and opportunities, in order to achieve UNICEF’s strategic goals. The team supports National Committees and UNICEF Country Offices with their partnerships and strategies for growth. The team also champions and drives global best practice and issues guidance and policies globally.

For every child, a champion

Under the general guidance of the Corporate Alliances Manager (New Business), this post is responsible for supporting the UNICEF network to proactively secure major new global alliances with companies. These include both new US$ multi-million financial partnerships and a select group of shared-value partnerships that include both significant financial and non-financial elements. This role will not usually lead the external relationship with prospects, but instead supports select markets in their proposition development, internal coordination, pitching, negotiation, and relationship management. Markets supported may include the USA, Canada, and/or others.

The post is responsible for working cross-functionally with other team members and departments, including UNICEF National Committees, Programme Group, Regional Offices, and Country Offices, including to build the skill set for developing large new corporate alliances.

How can you make a difference?

Summary of key functions/accountabilities:

  1. Supports select markets to meet their new business targets by helping them to secure new financial partnerships (including at a US $multi-million level) and Shared-Value Partnerships (that include both financial and non-financial elements) against an annual target:
  • Works with National Committees and/or Regional/Country Offices to support them to identify, develop and negotiate high-value (in the 7 and 8-figure $ range) new global alliances with companies. Supports the market relationship lead as needed from the initial discussions stage through to partnership contracting and launch.
  • Helps develop the strategic programme and partnership opportunities for prospects. This will particularly involve managing the internal coordination across UNICEF stakeholders to identify and develop the priority ideas for prospects. Stakeholders can include UNICEF programme colleagues, due diligence, communications, and legal.
  • Supports markets to develop and refine concept notes, proposals, and pitches.
  • Supports markets where needed in key meetings with potential corporate partners, demonstrating best-practice in cultivation, influencing, and negotiation.
  1. Works closely with a group of National Committees and/or Regional/Country Offices to ensure best-in-class new business development strategies are in place to grow income from the corporate sector
  • Supports markets to help them achieve and exceed their annual new business income targets, identifying any challenges and proactively exploring solutions.
  • Provides strategic advice on new partnerships to ensure UNICEF raises quality, flexible resources while also meeting the needs of corporate partners.
  • Provides one-to-one coaching and training sessions on the development of new corporate partnerships.
  1. Contributes to the overall New Business Strategy
  • Works with National Committees, Regional Offices, and Country Offices to disseminate guidance and learnings on new partnership development and priority high-value propositions.
  • Through regular contacts with New Business specialists in markets, and other sources of insights (Market Knowledge research, Global New Business pipeline analysis, etc.), identify trends and key factors of success and influences markets to adjust their strategies and priorities accordingly through capacity building webinars (Corporate Zoomcamp, Corporate Leadership Meeting, etc.).
  • Leads on the development of a thematic (e.g. Education, WASH…) or sectoral (e.g. banking, pharmaceuticals…) high-value proposition, liaising with relevant teams across UNICEF (Programme Group, Division of Global Advocacy and Communications, Country Offices, other Partnerships teams within PFP, PPD, etc.).
  • Supports other markets/projects/initiatives as needed across the team.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Education:

  • An advanced university degree is required in one of the following fields: Business, Marketing, International Relations, Social Sciences, or another relevant technical field.
  • Alternatively, a first-level university degree in a relevant field in combination with additional 2 years of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience:

  • Minimum eight years of professional work experience in fundraising or marketing, commercial- or non-commercial partnerships development, of which a minimum of two years in an international context is required.
  • Experience in both corporate partnerships and development programming is highly desirable.
  • Proven experience in identifying, developing, and securing a new business corporate pipeline, including successfully securing new corporate partnerships at a US$ 7-figure per year and above funding value is highly desirable.
  • Good commercial awareness and proven business understanding and acumen (including with the US Headquartered companies) is highly desirable.
  • Experience in directly influencing senior decision makers both internally and at international companies is desirable.
  • Ability to be a collaborative member of a pitch team, without needing to always be front facing.
  • Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.
  • UNICEF/UN experience is highly desirable, with a strong understanding of UNICEF and its programmatic work.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in English is required. Excellent writing and Oral skills in English is essential.
  • Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) is an asset.
