Precision agriculture is a data-driven farm management approach that caters to the needs of individual farms. It can reduce the need for agricultural inputs like water, fertilisers, and pesticides, improve productivity and yields, and reduce the environmental footprint of farming. Precision agriculture technologies (e.g., smartphones, drones, sensors, and digital platforms) are becoming increasingly accessible for even smallholder farmers. The publication explores the various technologies currently used for precision agriculture, evaluates their feasibility for adoption by smallholder farmers, identifies suitable business models, and provides recommendations for project managers looking to include digital technologies in ongoing or new initiatives.
