UNDP Sri Lanka is committed to working together with the GoSL towards a sustainable Sri Lanka. In UNDP's ‘Beyond Recovery: Towards 2030’ 2.0 Offer, one of the four integrated areas identified and prioritized by UNDP is Green Economy.

To support the UNDP Country Office (CO) in addressing these complex development challenges, UNDP’s Climate and Environment Team (CET) will provide its technical expertise in implementing the “Colombo Development Dialogue on Green Development, June 2021”.

As an extension of, and as a corollary to The Dialogue, UNDP seeks to develop a National Multistakeholder Platform in Sri Lanka to convene and continue to engage key stakeholders, decisionmakers, development practitioners, and policymakers after reaching a final policy consensus on a Green pathway and provide support in realizing a green recovery, while enhancing regional and/or national cooperation on the same. The UN Youth Volunteer will be involved in furthering the Green Development efforts by assisting the development of a partner platform/task force on the Green agenda and formalizing/institutionalizing this platform as part of the National Development architecture which will feed into the overall national policy planning.

Under the overall guidance of the Climate and Environment Team (CET) Leader, the UN Youth Volunteer will assist UNDP Sri Lanka in strengthening, coordinating, and supporting the said National Stakeholder Platform on green development and assist in continuing advocacy, coordination, innovation, and outreach work pertaining to the Platform. The UN Youth Volunteer will work closely with the CET, with guidance from the Policy and Engagement Team on donor/partner engagement, and with the UN Volunteers Programme to support integrated programming to ensure stakeholder engagement to facilitate the Green Development agenda.

Under the direct supervision of the Policy Specialist and Team Leader (Climate and Environment), and with guidance from and close working relations with the Policy and Engagement Team on donor/partner engagement, the UN Youth Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

I. Partnerships and Resource Mobilization • Assist in identifying opportunities to engage stakeholders/partners and developing a Na-tional Multistakeholder Platform and strengthening the coordination efforts to facilitate the Green Development Dialogue. • Assist in identifying opportunities to engage stakeholders/partners and supporting the Na-tional Multistakeholder Platform. • Support building strategic partnerships and stakeholder engagement and strengthening the coordination efforts to facilitate the Green Development agenda. • Support UNDP’s work on Innovations to create solutions or find new ways to complex development challenges. • Provide coordination support to the team where required, particularly in facilitating and coordinating UNDP events and meetings between government partners, UN agencies, development partners, and the private sector. • Infuse new thinking and support Communications, Advocacy and Knowledge Manage-ment initiatives by being a Youth Advocate with a continued focus on ‘working out loud’ (blogging, social media engagement, etc). • Whilst supporting UNDP in its work, participate in a constructive learning journey which will enhance the leadership skills and potential of all UN Youth Volunteers. • Provide coordination support to the team where required, particularly in facilitating and coordinating UNDP events and meetings between government partners, UN agencies, development partners, and the private sector.

II. Programme Coordination: • Support in project coordination activities with partners, mainly between multilateral and development agencies, IFIs, private sector partners, and other external partners; • Assist in the provision of administrative support to Climate and Environmental Team in terms of coordination and partnership building and resource mobilization; • Assist in management of relations with development agencies, the private sector, rele-vant ministries and other stakeholders; • Assist in developing communication and training support materials, as required.

III. Policy Advocacy • Support CET in policy advocacy in the area of green development. • Assist research work and assessments as required in Climate and Environment subjects to support the policy development and advocacy. • Facilitate stakeholder consultations and coordinate meetings as requested

or demonstrated interest (up to 2 years) in green and sustainable development practices/advocacy. • Previous experience as a volunteer/intern and/or experience of another culture, (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded. • Experience building and maintaining partnerships with Government, other development partners and the private sector is advantageous. • Demonstrated capacity to undertake assigned responsibilities and work under pressure.

Colombo is situated on the Western Province of Sri Lanka and is the commercial capital of the country. Colombo is located on the west coast of the island and adjacent to the administrative capital, Sri Jayawardenepura, Kotte. The climate is fairly temperate throughout the year but humidity is usually high. From March to April the temperature averages around 31 degrees Celsius (88 degrees Fahrenheit). The only major change in the Colombo weather occurs during the monsoon seasons from May to August and October to January when heavy rainfall occurs. Sri Lanka became a member of the United Nations on 14 December 1955.
