You have:

  • A first-level university degree in Social Sciences, Development, Communications and/or related areas is required
  • A minimum of five years' experience in facilitating meetings or workshops and enhancing organizational performance for UN or other international organizations
  • Expertise in designing and implementing interactive methods to strengthen teams and improve communication
  • Excellent facilitation and communication skills are required
  • Excellent reporting and analytical skills for capturing reviews and suggestions from interactive sessions are required
  • Flexible nature, dynamic and can adapt to changing directions/thinking during sessions are required
  • Knowledge and/or experience of the UN, particularly current UN reform is desirable
  • Fluency in written and oral English is required; knowledge of French would be an advantage
  • Be either a Canadian Citizen/Permanent Resident or have a Canadian work permit

Result of Service The overall objective of this consultancy is to facilitate MLF’s Retreat planned for 27-28 February 2023, in Montreal area, Canada. The sessions may include any innovative technique to team spirit, adequate to the participants retreat. The facilitator will organize the sessions utilizing a creative and dynamic approach to encourage self-reflection, openness, and communication between participants. The teambuilding exercises should be creatively organized to include sessions aimed at assisting MLF to work and function as an effective team.

To this end the objectives of the teambuilding component of the retreat are to: - Facilitate introspection and critical reflection on the functioning of MLF; - Identify MLF teamwork best practices and lessons learned to take forward; - Improve MLF’s coherence and effectiveness through teamwork; - Improve MLF’s staff members knowledge of each one's roles and responsibilities, as well as their flexibility and adaptability skills.

Duties and Responsibilities Background: UNEP is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. The Multilateral Fund Secretariat (MLF) is dedicated to reversing the deterioration of the Earth's stratospheric ozone layer. It was established in 1991 as the financial mechanism of the Montreal Protocol to assist developing countries (Article 5 countries in the language of the Protocol) in complying with their obligations under the Montreal Protocol. The MLF is managed by the Executive Committee which is assisted by the Fund Secretariat, located in Montreal, Canada and administered by UNEP (www.multilateralfund.org).

MLF is seeking a qualified Consultant to facilitate a two-day team building exercise in consultation with the Chief of Administration and facilitate the overall retreat during the entire period. The Consultant will also contribute to the report of the retreat, summarizing the process, discussions and decisions taken, as well as providing expert recommendations on a way forward.

The main purpose of the retreat is to provide a platform for all staff to collectively contribute towards an improved and thriving work environment as well as achieving a unified vision for the organization by conducting various fun, challenging and engaging activities to strengthen team spirit, trust and collaboration among staff members. The assignment also includes improving staff communication, conflict resolution, team morale and adapting to the organizational changes. The consultant will report to the Chief of Administration.

Specifically, the Consultant will be required to: - Support the Chief of Administration in the design of the retreat agenda and sessions, in particular the teambuilding component. This will include drafting the layout of the retreat and advising on amendments to the agenda, to achieve desired results, as needed. - Provide overall facilitation of the retreat. - Ensure that participants have a clear understanding of the retreat teambuilding objectives, key tasks, and outcomes to be achieved. - Provide ice breaking/energizing exercises as necessary to enhance continued morale and - participation in all sessions. - Produce a final report outlining session proceedings, any recommendations and action points. - Perform other responsibilities including but not limited to the following: a) Participate in the retreat planning with the MLF team and provide inputs to the draft agenda aimed at achieving desired results. b) Prepare the Team Building sessions and exercises and submit a detailed plan. c) Provide a brief presentation on the approach that the consultant intends to employ in facilitating and moderating the retreat teambuilding component. d) Organize the necessary tools and technical resources for the exercises, to make them UN context-related and relevant for the overall objectives of the retreat.

Qualifications/special skills A first-level university degree in Social Sciences, Development, Communications and/or related areas is required.

A minimum of five years' experience in with a focus on facilitating meetings or workshops and enhancing organizational performance for United Nations and/or other international, regional or bilateral development organizations.

Expertise in designing and implementing a wide range of interactive methods to strengthen teams and improve communication in the workplace is required.

Excellent facilitation and communication skills is required.

Excellent reporting and analytical skills necessary for capturing the reviews and suggestions that will emerge from the interactive sessions during the exercise is required.

Flexible nature, dynamic and can adapt to changing directions/thinking that may occur during the sessions is required.

Knowledge and/or experience of the UN, in particular the current UN reform is desirable.

Be either a Canadian Citizen/Permanent Resident or have a Canadian work permit.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this contract, fluency in written and oral English is required. Knowledge of French would be an advantage; the retreat will be carried out in English.

Additional Information Tasks as and when needed: Prepare the agenda and detailed work plan including details with regards to the Team building sessions, hold discussions with the MLF focal point for the retreat. Visit the retreat venue. Deliver a final report, outlining session proceedings, any recommendations and action points - 2 days. Facilitate the Team Building sessions and ice-breaking exercises during the retreat – 2 days.

The consultant will be paid a lumpsum of US $2,000.00 at the end of the assignment at a daily rate of US $500.00
