How can you make a difference?

The Regional Human Resources Section, UNICEF East Asia Pacific Regional Office (EAPRO) is seeking a consultant to offer workshops intended to improve the professional English writing skills of participants. The workshops will be delivered virtually, and should be aimed to help staff to improve the structure, messaging, clarity and conciseness, while avoiding jargon in their professional writing in English.

Work Assignments:

Conduct online writing workshops for up to 15 staff via zoom or other similar stable online learning delivery product (consultant’s own license). Software must be compatible with UNICEF computers and accessible by all participants. Using various teaching methodologies, organize and deliver online capacity development workshops to improve the professional English writing skills of participating staff members.

While proposals are sought in terms of the recommended duration, structure and content of such trainings, it is currently envisioned that these workshops be a series of four 2-hour sessions spread over 8 to 10 weeks to allow participants to reflect on material, and practice skills gained before attending the following training. Homework, mainly on writing or editing, shall be given, and the vendor shall provide comments and feedback to the participants prior to the following session. The vendor shall incorporate various hands-on writing and editing exercises in the workshops for the participants to practice their English writing skills.

Some of the workshops shall cover basic topics and concepts in English writing, particularly keeping in mind that for the majority of the participants, English is not their native language. Other workshops may focus on different topics in writing, such as policy writing, and report writing.

Work Schedule:

• Five workshops, each composed of four 2-hour sessions on basic English Writing Skills.

• Five workshops each composed of four 2-hour sessions on two or three special topics, to be identified by vendor, in collaboration with the supervisor of the contract.

• The vendor shall accommodate the time zones of the participants of the workshops in the East Asia and Pacific Region, where there is a six hour time difference between Bangkok and Fiji, for example.

End Product(s): Delivery of 10 workshops, which are composed of a series of four 2-hour sessions, as well as two summary reports, with recommendations for next steps. Attendee lists shall be provided for each workshop.

Duration of Contract: The assignment will last for the period of 11.5 months starting in February of 2023 until January 2024. The sessions will be scheduled as needed during the validity of the contract.

Official Travel: None

Work Location: Consultant is expected to virtually work from home-country basis, and to provide his/her own ICT and communication equipment.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

• Minimum 8 years’ experience as a trainer of high-quality international standard required

• Minimum 8 years’ professional English Writing instruction experience required

• Experience teaching in an On-line environment to adult-learners in a professional setting required

• Previous experience with working within UN environment preferred

• Home location in the region is preferred to better accommodate the timings of the workshops

Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.
