The Supporter Engagement Strategy (SES) is a mechanism to deliver UNICEF’s strategic plan, bringing to life UNICEF’s objective of winning support for the cause of children from decision makers and the public. It is a set of enablers bringing together UNICEF colleagues across Private Sector Fundraising and Partnerships (PFP), Department of Communications (DOC), Information Technology (ICT), the Global Volunteers Office, National Committees and Country Offices to reach advocacy, public engagement and fundraising goals with individual supporters; leveraging state-of-the-art technologies to customize experiences locally and fostering positive change and collaboration within UNICEF.

The Pre-Implementation Lead is responsible for commencing the implementation of these SES enablers within identified UNICEF offices to improve capacity and deliver optimal supporter experience and loyalty. This preparation stage is critical to ensuring office readiness for implementation, that resources are correctly allocated, “As-Is” and “To-Be” stages are documented and agreed, risks identified with mitigation plans and that the implementation team has clear requirements to develop the localization of the Digital Platform.

The role will provide strategic and tactical direction during pre-implementation phases, preparing markets for the localization of the Global SES Platform. They will ensure a smooth transition from Preparation to Market Implementation stages, including the delivery of platform roll out milestones, coordinating with workstream leads and across PFP, Regional Support Centers (RSCs), ICTD and Country Offices. The position will manage communications to senior stakeholders, project oversight and engagement.

The candidate will report directly to Irwin Fernandes, Chief, Individual Giving (IG), PFP, and to Shrinivas Puranik, Senior ICT Business Relationship Manager for ICT related matters. The consultant is expected to work full-time under this contract.

How can you make a difference?

Under the guidance of the Chief of Individual Giving, the individual consultant will:

1. Onboard markets:

• Co-develop detailed plans with key SES stakeholders for the readiness of market deployment, implementation and operationalization of new technologies and techniques that will improve supporter engagement and experience.

• Model target market-adoption roadmap and economic impact, including operational and staff benefits, documenting fact-based impact across all areas supported by the new ecosystem, with the purpose of encouraging new market adoption in line with agreed timelines

• Ensure markets are properly briefed and aligned on all project governance structures while setting clear expectations on what is required in terms of resources, dedication, ownership, timelines and reporting requirements.

• Lead on all preparedness / pre-implementation tasks required for markets, including third party vendor contracting, market resourcing plans, PCI-readiness, documentation of “As-is” process flows and project planning.

• Ensure that the IG and ICTD teams are supported in the design and development of technical solutions by working closely with IG and ICTD product owners.

• Through leading the intense intervention, support the assessment and documentation of target markets practices in supporter engagement, with a view to close gaps in technology and techniques that improve engagement, while ensuring staff are upskilled and there is ongoing support for the new solutions implemented.

• Support ICTD, IG, and local markets in documenting business needs and ensuring they become technical requirements.

• Coordinate the needs assessment for each Country Office and, working closely with the IG Marketing Managers, develop recommendations that will improve marketing strategy.

• Coordinate supporter focused guidance in countries participating in the Core SES Solution that helps to define business goals and engagement standards; and develop country specific supporter life cycle strategies.

• Work with the Knowledge Management Specialist to roll out a comprehensive business learning curriculum that ensures the proper market adoption of new systems and techniques.

• Provide meaningful and consistent management metrics.

2. Lead Preparation Stage:

• Coordinate and successfully execute nine workstreams within each target market, working cross functionally with workstream leads in PFP, ICTD, Regional Support Centers and Country Offices and delivering to clear milestones as follows:

• Transfer the SES localization plan, including documentation, to the Implementing Lead for the execution of the Implementation Stage of each market-based SES project.

3. Provide Project Management, Coordination and Stewardship:

• Deliver overall project management of pre-implementation project phases across multiple, simultaneous markets and provide support and coordination during these phases to market based teams.

• Be an ambassador for UNICEF and its supporters, supporting the delivery of the SES Vision and ensuring that the organization's profile and reputation are enhanced.

• Ensure stakeholder views are managed towards the best solution.

• Support the planning and evolution of the SES Project Charter.

• Coordinate the documentation of each project, including lessons learned and appropriate processes to be implemented.

• Deliver high quality project records and documents to business and technical leads with clear descriptions of ongoing roles and maintenance activities.

• Undertake other project tasks as required by supervisors.

• SES Calculator is completed to detail funds required and to forecast payments.

• An update on overall global project progress, challenges, risks and escalations for all markets is reported to the SES Management Team through the Chief of Individual Giving on a weekly basis.

• Project Charter 2024 -2025 is updated.

• Guidance and assistance delivered to HQ Teams on resource planning for market implementations.

• SES RACI is completed on a weekly basis for all markets. • Stakeholder Relationship Management Strategy supported and key relationships across the organization built and maintained to ensure success of SES project.

• Bi-weekly meetings with Latin America Country Office Teams and Regional Support Center scheduled and delivered.

• SES Implementation Teams supported on coordination and preparation for Implementation and Business Uplift phases:

• Go Live events conducted/completed in coordination with wider SES Team • Plans for post 2025 activities proposed and documented.

Travel:

The incumbent of this role will work with UNICEF’s markets in Latin America. Due to the nature of the engagement, it is expected that weekly online meetings will be required. At least 3 weeks onsite work in Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Ecuador and Peru, with the Fundraising and ICT teams will be required. This will be covered separately by UNICEF and is not included in the lump sum fee.

Minimum Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge/Expertise/Skills required:

Education:

* An Advanced university degree in Marketing, Communications, Non-profit or Business Management, or another relevant technical field is required,

* A first-level university degree with an additional 2 years of relevant professional work experience will be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.

Experience:

* A minimum of 10 years’ proven experience in marketing, product development and project management, with experience in delivering results at global and individual market-levels is required.

* Demonstrated experience in developing new product market strategies is required.

* Expertise in change management tools and practices is required.

* At least 2 years working with fundraising operations, understanding of UNICEF fundraising operations is highly desirable.

* At least 10 years’ experience as a principal in client service projects focused on satisfaction and loyalty is highly desirable.

* A minimum of 5 years' experience in matrixed, multi-stakeholder projects with demonstrable results, and stakeholder satisfaction is highly desirable.

* Experience with digital campaigning using CRM (ex: Salesforce) is an asset.

Skills:

* Demonstrated ability to build strong working relationships with internal and external partners.

* Ability to manage multiple projects under time pressure with strict attention to detail.

* Excellent communication skills (written and oral) to translate complex business requirements into technical-based language, and vice versa.

* Strong analytical skills and problem-solving mindset.

Remarks:

Please indicate your all-inclusive (lump-sum) fees in USD against the deliverables listed above. If there is a need for business travel, the travel costs will be covered by UNICEF separately. The office selects the individual based on best value for money.

Payment of professional fees will be based on submission of agreed deliverables. UNICEF reserves the right to withhold payment in case the deliverables submitted are not up to the required standard or in case of delays in submitting the deliverables on the part of the consultant.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
