Result of Service Under the direct supervision of the Chief, the Consultant will complete specific tasks that are required to produce the detailed system design and the proof of concept. It will involve meetings with other developers, consultants, expert companies and FIUs.

Conceptualization, R&D, functional requirements, design, preparing test data, algorithm and data model, development of back-end and front-ends, and proof of concept of necessary identified AI modules. The solutions may include text field vectorization or word embedding algorithms, classification models, interpretation algorithms, may include a front-end part with a wizard to enable necessary configuration (selection of table fields, parametrization of retraining, etc).

Duties and Responsibilities This position is located in the Solutions Transformation Team (SFT), Software Products for Member States Unit (SPMS), Information Technology Service (ITS), Division for Management (DM), United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV) and United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), in Vienna. The incumbent will work on Digital Solutions-related topics under the direct supervision of the Chief, Software Products for Member States (SPMS), Digital Transformation umbrella, and overall guidance of the Chief of the Information Technology Service in Vienna.

The Software Products for Member States unit (SPMS), part of the Information Technology Service at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, develops a suite of innovative software deployed at close to a hundred Member States to operationalize UNODC’s mandates in countering corruption, controlling illicit drugs and fighting financial and organized crime. Our portfolio of applications provides actionable intelligence through analysis, case management, artificial intelligence and dissemination to Law Enforcement Agencies for combatting financial crime, money laundering and terrorist financing. The suite of solutions is deployed at a large number of member states, has a six-figure user base across various sectors, and produces a tangible impact in investigations and conviction.

The Consultant will see through the development and deployment of Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning models, and design, create and implement the roll-out of defined selected modules by the member states, and based on these advanced technologies, including blockchain technology, cryptocurrencies, and other technologies and digital public goods contributing to current Digital Transformation initiatives. The consultant will also design and implement short and long-term strategic goals for expanding the software in line with the requirements of member states, the organization’s goals and technologies that are driving digital transformation across industries.

Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in computer science or related field is required. A first-level university degree in similar fields in combination with 2 years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Experience: Ten years of experience in artificial intelligence, machine learning, predictive models, graph analytics, Python, predictive modelling, forecasting, NLP, SQL, Kubernetes and Microservices is required Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage. Knowledge of French is desirable
