Background

The United Nations (UN) Namibia through its specialized agencies, funds and programmes work in collaboration with the Government of the Republic of Namibia (GRN) and Development Partners towards ending poverty, reduction of inequality and a path towards sustainable development.

UN Namibia has been a trusted partner to Namibia dating back to the time of independence. UN Namibia and its partners work together to catalyze political leadership and action, improve accountability, and use scarce resources more effectively. Partners work towards a common vision towards the achievement of Agenda 2030 in alignment of national development plans,

UN Namibia has proven to be highly successful, and the work of the Resident Coordinators Office (RCO) Namibia has become progressively more demanding, especially during the COVID pandemic, requiring additional support for coordination of communication, partnerships, and advocacy joint interventions. The purpose of this consultancy will be to specifically support products for joint initiatives in the areas of communication, partnerships, and advocacy for the remaining 5 months (August to December) 2021.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the UNIC Information Officer and the RCO Partnerships and Development Finance Officer, the consultant provides communication and advocacy project and programme support in knowledge management, communication support, administrative and logistic assistance, and services, under the overall oversight of the RCO Team Leader.

  • Main areas of responsibility: Communication:
    • UN Newsletter
    • Formatting and proofreading of key documents.
    • Update UN Namibia webpage and social media handles
    • Research and draft concept notes or provide inputs accordingly.
  • Partnerships:
    • Support Development Partners Forum: annual meeting and subgroups meetings
    • Support Buy Local/Grow Namibia Campaign
    • Support Other private sector campaigns.
    • Research and drafting of concept notes or inputs.
  • Management and clerical support:
    • Support key virtual and physical attendance events
    • Update databases (communication and partnerships)
    • Provide secretarial support when required.

Competencies

  • Knowledge of project management software, such as Smartsheet is desirable.
  • Knowledge of UN Namibia/UN System rules, regulations, procedures, and systems is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of Agenda 2030 and Sustainable Development Goals and United Nations Partnership Framework (UNPAF 2019-2023).
  • Must be able to work in a high-volume, changing environment on tight deadlines.

Required Skills and Experience

University-level Degree in Communication, Marketing or related social sciences or equivalent.

Experiences:

  • Two (2) years of relevant administrative, programme or event assistant work experience.
  • intermediate knowledge in the Microsoft Suite of Products (including MS Word, Excel, etc.) is required.
  • Prior experience in working with large volumes of data (entry and management) highly desirable.
  • Prior experience organizing meetings and events.
  • Project management experience is desirable.

Language

Excellent command of the English language is required (writing, speaking, and comprehension)
