BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT

The World Food Programme (WFP) is the United Nations frontline humanitarian agency addressing hunger and malnutrition worldwide. WFP tackles poverty and hunger through a range of interventions: saving lives and protecting livelihoods in emergencies; investing in the prevention and mitigation of disasters; restoring and rebuilding lives and livelihoods in post-conflict or post-disaster situation; and other interventions to tackle hunger. Each year, on average, WFP feeds more than 90 million people in over 120 countries and territories.

Supply chain management is at the core of WFP’s humanitarian response and therefore an area of constant strategic focus. Over 4,000 supply chain staff work around the clock to deliver food assistance to beneficiaries in some of the most complex environments. The Supply Chain function is committed to offer an innovative and effective learning journey to all of its workforce.

We are looking for an innovative and creative thinker, a passionate individual committed to excellence, who will strategically develop and drive global Supply Chain training initiatives, assure effective learning experiences and continuous enhancement of the Supply Chain Training approach.

The objective of the position of the Instructional Designer is to implement the training strategy and act as project lead and main focal point for the design and development of technical trainings. The Instructional Design Consultant will work closely with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and stakeholders to develop on-demand training resources and, design and produce learning experiences.

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in the development of divisional and functional learning and development (L&D) strategic plans and processes and lead the delivery of Instructional design requests meeting global objectives and supporting WFP strategic goals, ensuring alignment with wider WFP HR policies
  • Provide advice to multiple stakeholders (Chief, Head of Unit, Small Medium Enterprise) on L&D issues, understanding their needs and providing recommendations that are supported by corporate practices; working closely with subject matter experts to identify target audience’s training needs
  • Lead and evaluate analysis to draw conclusions and develop insightful recommendations and solutions for capacity building
  • Serve as a partner to the business in analyzing information resulting in developing online learning and blended learning deliverables and tools, using WFPs official learning platform (WeLearn); creating engaging learning activities and compelling course content
  • Monitor the accurate and compliant recording of Learning & Development (L&D) data; coordinate and prepare timely statistics and conduct analysis, identifying trends and potential issues, and proposing solutions to stakeholders
  • Utilize data and reports from the division-wide Learning and Development Dashboard
  • Lead the production of complex documentation or reports applying an advanced knowledge of O365 including Forms, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Excel in order to analyze data using a variety of tools.
  • Actively maintain, analyze, and apply knowledge of trends and best practices in learning technologies and instructional design that support the development and implementation of new/improved L&D platforms and practices that support WFP effectively
  • Lead the virtual reality (VR) pilot and make recommendations for the VR as a learning option for Supply Chain and present the outcomes of the pilot to the wider UN
  • Keep abreast of industry developments
  • Visualize instructional graphics, ensuring compliance with corporate and functional standards, to create the user interface and the finished product; create supporting material/media (audio, video, simulations, role plays, games etc)
  • Curate the Supply Chain Learning Channel and its sub-channels on WFP's learning platform; liaise with technical team on Learning Management System (LMS) integration requirements
  • Facilitate global trainings both in person (face to face) and remotely

Education

You have:

an advanced university degree in Human Resource Management Capability Development, Adult Education, Public or Business Administration Management, or any other relevant field.

Experience

You have:

  • At least 5-years of professionally relevant experience, including demonstrated design and delivery of learning solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with subject matter experts to build learning programs and performance support tools.
  • Solid experience in leveraging learning technology and learning management systems in the design and delivery of learning programs.
  • Ability to work with and develop relationships with identified external vendors.
  • Work experience in the UN System is desirable.

Language

  • You are fluent in oral and written English and have technical writing skills;
  • Intermediate knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, French, Chinese, Russian and Spanish) or Portuguese (one of WFP’s working languages) is desirable.
