Overview

UNICEF is developing an exciting new initiative - the Global Children’s Event taking place from 7 to 9 December 2021 and is looking for a Communication and Marketing Workstream Lead to support the design and amplification of the Event.

Why?

We are at an unprecedented moment in history. Children everywhere face severe threats -- from COVID-related school closures to climate change to worsening inequality. But all too often, children are left out of conversations about the way forward. The Global Children‘s Event will: Focus the world’s attention on the urgent needs of children and young people; commit to concrete action to advance child rights and meet the ambition of the Global Goals; and mobilize the transformational resources required to turn vision into reality.

How can you make a difference?

Under the sponsorship of the Deputy Executive Director, Partnerships and the leadership of the Global Event Lead and Deputy Lead, a Leadership Team of 6 Workstream Leads is strategically spearheading the design and development of the event, focusing on a dedicated area crucial to making the event a success for both UNICEF and children: 1) Private Sector Partnerships, 2) Public Sector Partnerships, 3) Youth, Civil Society and Technical Partnerships, 4) Content and Talent, 5) Communication and Marketing and 6) Event logistics.

The Communication and Marketing Workstream Lead will be responsible for and coordinating the input and activities of communication and marketing colleagues working on the event.

MAIN TASKS & DELIVERABLES

In preparation for the event, the Communication and Marketing Workstream Lead will be responsible for, but not limited to:

  1. Designing and leading the execution of an overarching communication and marketing strategy that engages partners and attendees in the lead-up to, during and following the event and extends the conversation about children and child rights into key segments of the general public.

  2. Supporting the development of engaging content for partners, participants and attendees, from research reports to multimedia assets, including shaping the concept(s) and project managing selected pieces of content through delivery.

  3. Coordinating the input and activities of communication and marketing colleagues working on the event, spanning media, social media, multimedia and internal communications.

  4. Working with PR and event agencies as needed to maximize the effectiveness of the marketing strategy.

  5. Supporting the design and delivery of the event, potentially including helping to host co-creation workshops with partners, contributing to staff engagement plans and staffing the multi-day event itself.

  6. Participating in Leadership Team meetings and facilitating general alignment among workstreams, in collaboration with other Workstream Leads.

  7. Contributing to post-event activities, including a formal report (produced by the event production agency) with recommendations for year two.

  8. Other duties as assigned by the Global Event Lead.

The Communication and Marketing Workstream Lead may be requested to work on weekends and holidays, especially as we get closer to the event.
