The UNICEF Division of Private Fundraising & Partnerships (PFP) Corporate Partnerships team, based in Geneva, works with UNICEF teams worldwide to optimize the corporate sector’s role in this mission, by building corporate partnerships that generate sustained value for partners and that realize the best possible results for children.

How can you make a difference?

As the UNICEF Corporate Partnerships Specialist (Tokyo), you will help Japan based corporations take leading roles in advancing children’s rights globally. You will work with the Japan Committee for UNICEF (JCU) and UNICEF PFP Geneva to build the relationships, value propositions, and partnership structures necessary for successful long-term partnerships with global impact.

The Corporate Partnerships Specialist will be passionate about connecting the resources and capabilities of leading Japanese corporations to the needs of children, enjoy the challenge of creating value for corporate partners and their key stakeholders, and be eager to push traditional boundaries of partnerships to maximize their impact.

Under the general guidance of the Corporate Partnerships Manager at UNICEF PFP Geneva, working in coordination with JCU Corporate Partnerships Manager, the consultant will focus on growing existing partnerships that deliver to UNICEF’s strategic objectives by leveraging financial and non-financial resources and optimizing the reach and influence of the corporate sector.

MAIN TASKS

This consultant is responsible for working with the Japanese Committee for UNICEF and UNICEF PFP to strategically and effectively manage existing high value partnerships, expanding their scope and duration to include new geographies and impact areas, in line with UNICEF’s strategic priorities:

  • Effectively manage existing high-value partnerships, ensuring the programmatic content is activated in line with the partnership strategic framework, quality reports are delivered timely, communication and advocacy plans are executed, partnership activities are coordinated with all participating UNICEF offices, and all relevant partnership information is shared with stakeholders.
  • Identify and pursue significant (USD 100K+) growth opportunities within existing partnerships, including working with UNICEF PFP, Programme Division and country offices to develop new proposals, build a strong business case for the company and harness UNICEF’s senior representatives influence to unlock these opportunities.
  • Work with Japan team to identify high value partnerships that are up for renewal and support them to develop robust renewal strategies and proposals.
  • Share relevant expertise and skills on challenges faced by the Japan team on high value international and national partnerships and fill in gaps in capacity and capability as needed to support the market’s overall Corporate Partnerships results.

DELIVERABLES

  • Day-to-day interactions with the partner, including answering ad-hoc requests and leading regular partnership calls.
  • Coordinate reporting on key programmatic progress.
  • Development of expansion and renewal proposals & cultivation of key influencers to grow partnership funding.
  • Facilitate co-creation workshops to identify new collaboration areas for partnership.
  • Identify opportunities to promote the partnership at high visibility UN moments, multi-stakeholder platforms such as WEF, leading industry / B2B events, etc.
  • Efficient liaising and coordination with PFP and JCU to ensure successful management of existing partnerships.
  • Liaising with UNICEF corporate research, legal, programme, and communications teams to ensure due diligence, proposal reviews and contracting is undertaken effectively.
  • Ensure all relevant partnership information is kept live on UNISON, prepare briefing notes when needed and communicate progress of the partnership with internal stakeholders regularly.

ESTIMATED DURATION OF THE CONTRACT AND PROPOSAL

11.5 months, tentatively starting Nov 2020

REPORTING TO

The consultant will report to Corporate Partnership Manager at PFP, Geneva. The consultant will also work in coordination with JCU Corporate Partnerships Manager. The consultant will work in close coordination with Partnership Development team and New Business Development team at PFP, Geneva. The consultant will also collaborate and consult with colleagues from the Japanese Committee for UNICEF, other National Committees, other PFP and UNICEF HQ units and country office colleagues, as appropriate.

Based in Japanese Committee for UNICEF in Tokyo, Japan.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Minimum five years of progressively responsible professional work experience in roles that involve management of global programme based corporate/foundation diverse partnerships and an understanding of the corporate sector functioning in Japan.
  • Advanced university degree in Business Management, Communications, Marketing, Social Sciences, Fundraising or related field is required. A first level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • Proven experience and skills on delivering on programme reporting and writing skills, communications, including successfully securing multiple new corporate partnerships at a US$1m per year and above funding value.
  • Proven experience working with Japanese companies. Experience of having worked in a Japanese company is an asset.
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills in English and Japanese.
  • Experience of working within corporate fundraising in an international organisation is an asset.
  • Experience of working in or with a programme implementation Country office would be an asset.
