The Water, Environment and Climate (WEC) portfolio, based in Vienna, and as part of the UNOPS Global Portfolio Group, has built strong partnerships and is effectively managing a portfolio of over 500 million USD over the last 15 years to support key initiatives with fund management, project implementation and administrative support.

WEC effectively operationalizes partners' agendas with global approaches, as well as regional and country specific activities focused on climate action, protection and conservation of the environment. Partners profit from WEC’s ability to operationalize and/or scale up their important substantive agendas, including in support of key multilateral environmental and climate agreements, such as the Paris Agreement, the Cartagena Convention as well as the Sustainable Development Goals.

The CLME+ region and the new 5-year UNDP/GEF PROCARIBE+ Project

The UNOPS/UNDP Project “Protecting and Restoring the Ocean’s natural Capital, building Resilience and supporting region-wide Investments for sustainable Blue socio-Economic development” (PROCARIBE+) is a 5-year project (co-) funded by the Global Environment Facility (May 2023 - April 2028) that aims to protect, restore and harness the natural coastal and marine capital of the region, to catalyze investments in a climate-resilient, sustainable Blue Economy, through strengthened regional coordination and collaboration and wide-ranging partnerships.

Functional Responsibilities

Under the guidance of the PROCARIBE+ Project Senior Officer, the Communications and Project Management Intern will undertake the following activities/responsibilities:

  • Support implementation of the project communications plan.
  • Support the management of the project website and HUB
  • Support the creation of graphics and design layouts for print ads, flyers, email newsletters, website, event campaigns and social media accounts
  • Support the editing and creation of short videos and other content for project communications and outreach
  • Propose content for social media channels and tactics to increase social media engagement
  • Support editing content, creating infographics and proposing visuals.
  • Support efforts related to event management – including preparing and dispatching invitation letters, assisting with organization, implementation of and follow up to events, briefings, video/audio conference calls and webinars
  • Support communication with regional partners and suppliers including design of communications materials under the guidance of the technical team for distribution amongst project partners
  • Support team members in the realization of project meeting reports, project dashboards and related tasks
  • Provide general assistance to the Project Management and Coordination Unit on various activities, including administrative support, scheduling of meetings, taking meeting minutes etc.
  • Any other administrative, communication and project management support tasks required by the supervisor and / or the PMCU.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education: - A Secondary school diploma is required. - A Bachelor degree in Communications, Administration, Graphic design, International Relations, sustainability, external relations, public relations and/or journalism, or similar is desirable. - Applicants must be currently enrolled in university to obtain an undergraduate degree or recently graduated from a university program at the Bachelor level, Masters or PHD or the equivalent or have graduated from such studies within three (3) years prior to the application date of the internship.

Experience

  • Experience working in international organizations, administrative management, communications, graphic design would be considered an asset.
  • Experience working in international organizations, administrative management, communications, graphic design would be considered an asset.
  • Experience working with project operations and communications with external stakeholders is desired.
  • Skills with graphic design, video editing and social media management are desired.
  • Proficiency in the use of the Google Suite applications is desired.

Languages - Fluency in written and spoken Spanish is required - Fluency in written and spoken English will be considered as an asset

This internship is not designed to lead to a staff position with UNOPS. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of the internship.

Interns may be eligible for a monthly stipend from UNOPS provided that they do not receive funds from other institutions.
