Implemented with resources from the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the Floresta+ Amazônia Project is the result of a partnership between the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MMA) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). Based on information from the Rural Environmental Registration System (SICAR), in alignment with the National Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation - REDD+ Strategy (NDC), the Plan for the Prevention and Control of Deforestation in the Amazon (PPCDAm), the National Policy for Territorial and Environmental Management of Indigenous Lands ( PNGATI) and the strategic investment areas of the Brazil Country Programme for the Green Climate Fund, the project provides incentives for small rural producers, indigenous peoples and traditional peoples and communities and innovation actions with a focus on sustainable development in the Legal Amazon. The National Strategy for REDD+ will also be strengthened within the scope of the project. By 2026, Floresta+ Amazônia will strengthen positive economic solutions, aligned with the preservation and recovery of native vegetation for small owners and owners of rural properties. Through financial recognition to beneficiaries, the project will contribute to the consolidation of the market for payments for environmental services, as a tool for protecting the environment combined with social and regional development. through four resource distribution modalities: • Forest+ Conservation: direct payments to small rural producers, who have possession or ownership of rural property totaling up to 4 fiscal modules, as per Law nº 12,651/2012, with the aim of conserving remnants of native vegetation. • Forest+ Recovery: direct payments to small rural producers, who have possession or ownership of rural property totaling up to 4 fiscal modules, as per Law nº 12,651/2012 , with the aim of recovering Permanent Preservation Areas. • Forest+ Communities: support for indigenous peoples and traditional peoples and communities (PIPCT), including women and young people, and/or their associations and representative entities, through projects with the aim of strengthening the environmental and territorial management of their collective territories. • Forest+ Innovation: support for innovative actions and measures capable of developing and leveraging the implementation of public policies for the conservation and recovery of native vegetation, particularly those relating to Laws nº 12,651/2012 (Native Vegetation Protection Law) and 14,119 /2021 (National Policy on Payments for Environmental Services - PSA), through the development of a market for PSA and alternatives for the recovery and sustainable exploitation of native vegetation. The communication activities of the Floresta+ Amazônia Project are constant and transversal, covering all stages of its implementation process. Communication is strategic throughout the scope of the project, as it is responsible for processes and dynamics of articulation, mobilization, dissemination, and accountability involving a group of stakeholders to foster the perception of the Project's transparency and responsibility towards the various audiences involved, as well as consolidating the Project's reliability and influence with government bodies and other entities and partners.

Under the supervision of the Communication Adviser of the Floresta+ Amazônia Project, the UN Volunteer Communications Assistant will provide support within the scope of press consultancy, production and review of texts, to ensure that internal and external communication is effective, transparent and aligned with the objectives and mission of the Floresta+ Amazônia Project. This includes support in the production, management and systematization of information, relationship with the media, production of content for various media and vehicles, crisis management and strategic communication consultancy, scripting of videos and spots, recording and coverage of activities, notions of web design, graphic designer and video and audio editing. The focus of the work will be all project modalities, coordination, UNDP and MMA partnership of the project, institutional events and strategic support for actions and local teams in the states in which the Floresta+ Amazônia Project operates.

They will be responsible for executing and supporting the following activities: • Support the execution of the Communication Plan for the project and all its components. • Monitor and support the implementation of any other communication strategies that are developed by the Floresta+ Amazônia Project or by partner entities/organizations. • Support the development and/or implement specific communication strategies, by themes, defining key messages, according to the target audience, for targeted dissemination of the project and its results. • Adjust the language to reach the target audiences of the different components of the project. • Support in monitoring the results of discussions and engagement on social networks to constantly adapt the strategy. • Monitor, participate and support systematization of knowledge throughout the project implementation process, with a view to sharing information and good practices. • Assist in the execution of the project's agenda of dissemination of events, including contacts with the press and other media, as well as supporting and ensuring the correct management of internal and external communication of information subject to dissemination. • Support creation and updating of contact lists of professionals and media outlets, in addition to maintaining mailing contacts for target audiences, such as specialists, academia, among others. • Prepare monthly clippings with news related to the scope of the project. • Support and execute materials for social media with information related to the scope of the project. • Support the distribution of materials prepared through appropriate channels. • Support in the mobilization of specialized media/communication vehicles around the project's strategic activities and themes. • Support in the preparation of specific activities and materials for specialized media (press-kit). • Participate in face-to-face meetings or conference calls with the project team and/or partners. • Make the developed products available in electronic and editable format for prior approval by the Communication Office. • Contribute to discussions to prepare textual and graphic content for the Floresta+ Amazônia Project, as well as in actions of the different modalities and states. • Support the general review of materials relating to the project “Payments for REDD+ results achieved by Brazil in the Amazon biome in 2014 and 2015” before publication. • Support the creation of posts with cards and text for media and social networks, differentiated according to the platform. • Make posts on social networks to publicize the project, including cards and texts compatible with the platforms Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X (Formerly Twitter) and WhatsApp. • Support the management of the project's website and social networks, including and excluding materials, in addition to conducting content review processes in partnership with interested parties and implementing them. • Carry out any other activities that are necessary for the smooth progress of work in the communication area. • Performing other related tasks may be requested or assigned by the supervisor.

Furthermore, United Nations Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteer Program into their duties and promote voluntary actions through the engagement of communities in the course of their work. As such, United Nations Volunteers should dedicate part of their working time to doing some of the suggested activities:

• Expand their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteering by reading relevant UNV or external publications and actively participating in UNV activities (for example, in events marking International Volunteer Day); • Know and strengthen traditional and/or local forms of volunteering in the host country. • Prepare annual and end-of-work reports on results and opportunities. • Contribute articles/essays about field experiences and submit them to UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc. • Assist the UNV Buddy Program for newly arrived UN Volunteers. • Promote or advise local groups in engaging in online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use UNV’s online volunteering service whenever technically possible.

Communication with civil society organizations, international organizations and/or socio-environmental issues, especially on Legal Amazon themes. • Proficiency in programming arts/cards/graphic materials, photo editing and video-audio editing. • Mastery of photojournalism techniques and handling professional cameras

Functional skills: • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent writing, formulating and reporting skills. • Rigor and professionalism in the production and editing of texts/documents. • Excellent interpersonal relationships; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations and authorities at different levels; familiarity with development communication tools and approaches. • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national staff. • Solid computer knowledge, including proficiency with MS Office tools (Excel, Word, Power Point, etc.) and e-mail/internet; familiarity, video editing, photography, audio and designer programs. • Motivated, with the ability to work with minimal supervision; and ability to work to tight deadlines. • Demonstrate understanding, involvement, tolerance and sensitivity in ethnic-racial, sexual, religious and territorial issues.

The assignment will be in Brasília, the Federal capital of Brazil and seat of government of the Federal District, with possibility of missions to other states.

Brasilia is a family duty station and classified A (hardship). The living conditions in Brasilia are good as well as the access to health services. The accommodation facilities are in general good, and the choice is wide.

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and other living essentials. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan.

Brazil is security level 3 (moderate). United Nations Department of Safety and Security UNDSS Brazil advises to exercise a high degree of caution in Brazil due to high levels of serious and violent crime, particularly in major cities. Violent crime as muggings, armed robbery, kidnappings, and sexual assault, is very high. Avoid shanty towns (favelas) in the big cities and if you are attacked or robbed, do not resist. Demonstrations can occur at any time and may turn violent with little or no warning. All United Nations personnel must scrupulously comply with UNDSS procedures and recommendations during their assignment in Brazil. For missions in rural areas or indigenous reservations, special procedures may apply; UN personnel should consult with the local DSS office in advance.
