Organizational Setting

FAO Mongolia works with the vision "to be a leading, credible and responsive partner in ensuring food and nutrition security of the population". The office has been coordinating projects and programmes in research, capacity building, natural resources management, technology transfer, food and agriculture policy, livestock production systems management, emergency and post crisis management, forestry information, statistics, food security and nutrition, emergency response operations, crop production system management, and food quality and safety.

Reporting Lines

Under the direct supervision of FAO Representative in Mongolia the Communication and Networking Coordinator will carry out following tasks:

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Work closely with FAO representative, program and operations teams and technical colleagues at FAO Mongolia country office, FAORAP and HQs, to ensure that relevant communication, visibility and branding materials (such as calendars, briefing notes, Human Interest Stories, picture stories, videos, etc.) are developed and disseminated to donors and target groups through relevant media and network channels.
  • Assist FAO Mongolia to identify appropriate communication activities for the program and project activities.
  • Develop and maintain an updated list of FAO Mongolia donors, development partners and special interest groups. Assist in developing donor visit schedules/brochures, donor gifts, cards etc. Support preparation of background materials, briefs and information kits for visiting donors and high profile guests/visitors.
  • Develop and maintain contact information, materials and relationships with journalists and media outlets (print, TV, radio, web etc.) within and outside Mongolia to increase visibility of FAO Mongolia in the media (print, broadcast and digital). Specific activities may include:
    • Draft and edit articles, press releases, human-interest stories and other advocacy/information materials.
    • Collaborate with the media by organizing project site visits; facilitate photo coverage and TV footage and utilizing both web-based and traditional media as appropriate.
    • Monitor and evaluate the use and effectiveness of media materials. Maintain a library of media coverage, clippings etc.
  • Maintain FAO Mongolia country website and social media sites including daily monitoring, posting and content development, following FAO policies and guidelines and in close coordination with OCCI.
  • Archive communication materials, including digital, such as publications, press releases and clippings, photographs, audio-visual materials, web resources etc.
  • Assist in organizing and generating public support for special events and campaigns to promote strategic organizational goals. Support organization of workshops, seminars, campaigns, events and review meetings.
  • Monitor and evaluate impact of communication materials and advocacy events/campaigns to target audiences.
  • Promote innovations to support FAO mandate through activities that scope, test, pilot and implement innovative concepts
  • Scout unusual and high potential impact ideas and opportunities and make efforts towards developing innovative solutions
  • Engage creatively and widely across the UN and other development partners to identify ideas for evaluation and testing
  • Serve as FAO Mongolia focal point on i-connect innovation lab. Pursue opportunities to support developing and testing local innovations
  • Scan the external landscape for trends, preferences, patterns, ways of working and concepts than can be translated into better outcomes within FAO’s mandate
  • Participating in relevant networks to identify effective practice and remain up-to-date with current thinking and trends on innovation
  • Ensure all communication materials produced to be complied with corporate policy and strategy
  • Work with UN Communication Group in Mongolia and align the communication activities with other UN agencies
  • In consultation with RAPCOM at the FAO Regional Office in Bangkok, and OCC at HQ as required, the incumbent shall familiarize him/herself with FAO’s corporate communication policy and operational guidelines to ensure mandatory coherence of all communication and information outputs.
  • The incumbent shall also act as the focal point for RAPCOM and OCC as required to further disseminate global and regional press releases, Op-Eds and other materials in the spirit of “One FAO”
  • Ensure that all publications and documents to be disseminated via the FAO document repository are timely processed through the corporate Publications Workflow System (PWS), from their planning to production and dissemination.

  • Work in constant contact with the Publishing Group at FAO and ensure that all corporate publishing standards are adhered to in publications and documents.
  • Any other duties as required

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

  • Advanced university degree and/or university degree in graphic design, journalism, communication, public relations, business administration, or other relevant disciplines,
  • At least 3 years of experience in the relevant fields.
  • Nationality of Mongolia or resident in the country with a regular work permit.

Technical/Functional Skills

  • An excellent command of English is required as are proven writing and reporting skills,
  • Strong writing, composition, and editing skills in both English and Mongolian,
  • Strong knowledge and skills of design techniques, tools, and principles (such as InDesign, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Photoshop),
  • Experience in video production software is an advantage,
  • Communication management. Knowledge of theories and practices in communication research planning and strategy,
  • Fundamentals for working in various media formats – print, audio, video, web etc,
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills,
  • The ability to operate under pressure and good interpersonal skills,
  • Proactive approach to improve the visibility of the FAO Mongolia and the project activities,
  • Knowledge of United Nations or other international organizations is preferable
