Overview

Develop creative communications and advocacy content for UNODC.

You have:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • At least two (2) years of experience in the fields of communications, public relations, international relations, journalism, project management, and/or international relations, is required.
  • Experience in developing communications strategies or campaigns, is required.
  • Experience in drafting, writing, and editing social media content, is desirable.
  • Experience working in the GCC or the MENA region, is desirable.
  • Previous working experience with the United Nations (UN), is desirable.
  • Fluency in both English and Arabic is required.
  • Knowledge of another United Nations official language is an advantage.

Result of Service

  1. Prepared a paper or stylized PowerPoint slides outlining new, creative and concrete ways to show how UNODC programmes with/in the GCC are delivering results and promoting security, justice and health for all; 2. Drafted key advocacy messages based on OGCCR’s reporting exercises; 3. Drafted quarterly stories about the work of UNODC with/in the GCC, based on inputs received from OGCCR project coordinators; 4. Drafted contents for OGCCR’s quarterly newsletters, based on inputs received from OGCCR project coordinators; 5. Drafted quarterly posts for the OGCCR social media account(s) (X, LinkedIn), based on inputs received from OGCCR project coordinators; 6. Prepared contents of a future OGCCR webpage using creative concepts (e.g., develop infographics, short videos etc.); 7. Provided social media traffic/analytics updates to OGCCR management; 8. Assisted, quarterly, in arranging appropriate media interaction and engagement for the OGCCR Representative on UNODC-wide issues; 9. Drafted quarterly speeches, media briefers, presentations for the OGCCR Representative or project coordinators on the mandate and work of UNODC.

Duties and Responsibilities

The individual contractor will work under the overall guidance of the UNODC Representative for the GCC Region and the direct supervision of the Project Coordinator (Drug Control & Crime Prevention), in close coordination with OGCCR relevant thematic project coordinators, to deliver the following key outputs: 1. Identify new and creative ways to show how UNODC programmes with/in the GCC deliver results and promote security, justice and health for all; 2. Contribute ideas and assist in developing key advocacy messages based on OGCCR’s reporting exercises; 3. Collect inputs from OGCCR project coordinators and provide templates for stories about the work of UNODC with/in the GCC, on quarterly basis. 4. Collect inputs from OGCCR project coordinators and assist with the development of a newsletter for the office, on quarterly basis. 5. Draft posts for the OGCCR social media account (“X”) in close coordination with OGCCR project coordinators, on quarterly basis. 6. Develop and design creative concepts for the contents of a future OGCCR webpage (e.g., develop infographics, short videos etc.) [consultations on the creation of the webpage are ongoing]; 7. Promote traffic to OGCCR’s webpage [once created] and social media account(s) and provide regular traffic/analytics updates to OGCCR management; 8. Identify and assist in arranging appropriate media interaction and engagement for the OGCCR Representative on UNODC-wide issues, on quarterly basis. 9. Draft speeches, media briefers, presentations for the OGCCR Representative or project coordinators on the mandate and work of UNODC, on quarterly basis

Qualifications/special skills

• High school diploma or equivalent is required. • At least two (2) years of experience in the fields of communications, public relations, international relations, journalism, project management, and/or international relations, is required. • Experience in developing communications strategies or campaigns, is required. • Experience in drafting, writing, and editing social media content, is desirable. • Experience working in the GCC or the MENA region, is desirable. • Previous working experience with the United Nations (UN), is desirable.

Languages

• English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in both English and Arabic is required. Knowledge of another United Nations official language is an advantage.
