STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Diploma in mass communications, public relations or related field.

  • Knowledge of the United Nations’ work in the country, as well as of other cooperation agencies;
  • Knowledge of the country context; socio-economic and political situation;
  • Use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goal;
  • Planning and organizing skills and ability to work independently under minimum supervision.

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

The position will be supervised by the WFP Communication, Advocacy and Marketing Associate.

JOB PURPOSE

To perform general administrative and some specialised communications processes that support the creation of communications content and the delivery of communications services aimed at maintaining and enhancing WFP’s visibility and reputation and supporting fundraising activities.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  1. Implement country-specific communications and advocacy planning in line with Corporate Communications and Branding Strategy to maintain and enhance the visibility and reputation of WFP and advocacy and visibility campaigns through regular and appropriate communications, positioning WFP as leading agency in saving lives in emergencies and changing lives for millions through sustainable development;
  2. Generate social media content including photo galleries, videos and audios consistent with corporate messages to be disseminated utilizing platforms, networks and other means for enhanced coverage and support of WFP’s activities;
  3. Prepare and distribute information products such as news release, brochures, infographics and briefing packages to donors, public and private stakeholders and other target audiences as well as preparing multimedia products for WFP web site through Communications Teams at the Regional Bureau and Headquarters levels;
  4. Maintain contact with journalists and media outlets, manage the flow of information with the media about WFP’s work, monitor and analyse mainstream media coverage of WFP;
  5. Organize field visits to project sites of external missions of donors, government counterparts, media and celebrities (if possible), and document activities with audio-visual productions;
  6. Liaise and interact with UN Inter-agency Communications Team (GICI) and other cooperation agencies, providing information about WFP for joint events and activities;
  7. Conduct prospect and suggest ideas to identify private sector entities that can help achieve Zero Hunger and WFP strategic objectives;
  8. Contribute to the preparation of proposals, supporting materials and sales presentations to effectively “sell and market” WFP to the private sector prospects and proposals regarding the component of behaviour change communications and visibility activities;

Sociopolitical Contextual Understanding Shows awareness of the multilateral/interagency environment and the dynamics in which WFP operates which informs approach to daily tasks. Communication Strategy and Planning Demonstrates sound understanding of WFP communications strategy and effectively implements tailored media and communications plans which support the delivery of the strategy.
