- Ability to draft news articles and/or social media posts is desirable.
- Ability to design surveys and polls is desirable.
- Fluency in reading, speaking, understanding and writing in English and Arabic is required.

Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is part of the United Nations Secretariat responsible for bringing together humanitarian actors to ensure a coherent response to emergencies. OCHA also ensures a framework within which each actor can contribute to the overall response efforts. OCHA's mission is to mobilize and coordinate effective and principled humanitarian action in partnership with national and international actors to alleviate human suffering in disasters and emergencies; advocate the rights of people in need; promote preparedness and prevention and facilitate sustainable solutions. Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Humanitarian Affairs officer in OCHA’s Liaison Office in Kuwait, the Communications Intern will support related to humanitarian engagement with the Government of Kuwait and partners in country, as well as contribute to communications activities. This internship is based in Kuwait for a maximum period of six months, beginning at a mutually agreed start date. OCHA Kuwait is part of the External Relations Section, which sits within the Partnerships Branch, Financing and Outreach Division. It aims to strengthen the engagement and partnership with all Member States, regional and intergovernmental organizations, in support of OCHA’s role in promoting principled and effective humanitarian action and to sustain and grow political and financial support to the multilateral humanitarian system. Under the overall guidance of the Humanitarian Affairs Officer The intern will perform a variety of tasks, depending on the internship period, including but not limited to: • Support the development of communication products on humanitarian needs targeting specific audience • Assists in the planning of events organized / co-organized by OCHA in Kuwait. • Develops and disseminates social media material on OCHA-Kuwait partnerships. • Support in coordinating meetings and consultations with partners in the country. • Draft summaries, meeting minutes and reports. • Performs any other administrative work as required.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); in communication and media or other related fields. (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in communication and media. Applicants to the UN Internship Program are not required to have professional work experience. However, an experience in Communications and media, or other related field is desirable. Applicants must have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint and MS Teams required. Ability to draft news articles and/or social media posts is desirable. Ability to design surveys and polls is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship fluency in reading, speaking, understanding and writing in English and Arabic is required.
