UNDP actions support an inclusive political dialogue, participatory governance institutions, development planning processes (including equitable, accountable, and effective delivery of malaria services) - particularly at the local level - and inclusive growth, with a focus on access to finance and the creation of jobs associated with value chains, particularly for youth and women. Given the population's heavy reliance on natural resources, the focus is on managing and preventing the country's biggest environmental problem, drought, and related disasters, as well as protecting the country's endangered biodiversity. Since the environment and inclusive growth are linked to conflict prevention and citizen security, the program also aims to strengthen social cohesion and employment, participation, and the fight against youth radicalization, particularly in the Lake Chad region. Effective communication around these themes will make UNDP's contributions visible to beneficiaries and increase donor support for sustainable development in Chad. The need for a UN Volunteer in Communications is essential.

Under the direct supervision of the UNDP Resident Representative, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

1. Strategic planning •Contribute to the implementation of the office and project communications strategy and plan. • Identify and develop multimedia stories from the various portfolios that have compelling narratives and reflect notable achievements • Develop communication tools and materials to promote UNDP and programme visibility • Provide guidance and support for the finalization (design and layout) of documents produced by the country office (fact sheets, reports...). • Work proactively with UN colleagues and the UN communications group to implement joint initiatives and the UN communications strategy.

2. Public Information and Advocacy • Organize public information and advocacy activities • Develop, maintain and update media contact list and database • Establish, document, review and refine the process of communicating with media contacts, including press conferences and events, publication of media materials, etc.

3. Digital Content and Website • Provide effective and timely assistance in managing the office's web platform by planning and assembling website content to support effective communications strategy, campaigns, and regional and global priorities. • Provide effective and timely assistance in the development and management of social media accounts, maintaining social media contact and relationships, and communicating the story of UNDP's contribution in country to a broader audience.

   4. Teamwork and Gender Mainstreaming • Develop and maintain teamwork within the communications unit and office. • Promote gender mainstreaming in communication activities.

Chad is a landlocked country covering 1,284,000 km². The climate is Sahelian, and temperatures are around 45° in the hot season. Living conditions are generally very difficult. Although the position is based in N'Djamena, travel to the provinces is expected. The main religion is Islam. Urban public transportation is not well developed, but cabs are available.
