The programme focuses on improving the quality of social services, increasing access to services, and helping to build national and sub-national capacities to provide low-cost, high-impact interventions for all children, especially the most vulnerable.

How can you make a difference?

A challenging and exciting opportunity has arisen within UNICEF Zimbabwe under the Communications and External Relations Section for passionate and committed Communication Officer (Digital Platforms).

This position is based in the Communication & External Relations Section, reporting to the Chief of Communication. The Communication Officer (Digital Comms & Social Media) will produce and manage content for different social media channels, monitor performance and participate in the design and implementation of digital communication campaigns, including online media plans for promotions. The digital communications officer will also be responsible for planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating the online communication strategy with a focus on social media management, campaign implementation and coordination of partners. He/she will support the office in enhancing the impact of its advocacy, improving the visibility of its interventions and those of its partners. He/she will prepare content for and manage the UNICEF Zimbabwe as the central repository of knowledge and visibility. The incumbent will support the sourcing, design, production, sharing and archiving of high quality digital media assets developed as part of UNICEF's Global Communication Strategy; supporting the rollout, content development, promotion and maintenance of UNICEF’s innovative digital platforms including U-Report, the internet of Good Things, SMS based services/Chatbots, as well as other innovative digital initiatives in UNICEF.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • An University degree (Bachelor or equivalent) in Communications, Journalism, Digital Platforms, Public Relations or a related field.
  • A minimum of two years of relevant professional work experience in web design and maintenance (including content management systems) including experience in working with social media channels, digital monitoring tools and social media data analysis.
  • Demonstrated good level of writing and content creation.
  • Computer systems, including internet navigation, office applications, and specifically, interactive digital media.
  • Knowledge of the Drupal operating systems and other Content Managements Systems preferable.
  • Evidence of social media community management is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience with visual design, editing of graphics and photos, and creating compelling content for digital platforms.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of a local language is an asset.
