OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

To ensure that effective WHO country presence is established to implement WHO country cooperation strategies that are aligned with Member State's health priorities, sustainable development agendas and harmonized with the United Nations country teams and partners to improve health outcomes and progress towards achieving Universal Health Coverage.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

  1. Support the development of WHO messages, success stories from the field, media releases, talking points, press releases, position statements, IEC, other communication materials.
  2. Contribute in the production of advocacy materials for the implementation of awareness campaigns and events on specific topics.
  3. Assist in the development of country communication plan including corporate communications materials which will support projects implementation and ensure that project communication objectives (e.g. awareness raising) are reflected in all interventions.
  4. Draft regular newsletter, internal talking points, web and feature stories/messages, and updates where appropriate to support the WHO Country Office's projects, showing human face of WHO, including profiles of WHO staff and healthcare professionals.
  5. Support production and proper dissemination of WHO Country Office communications products including but not limited to audio-visual and printed materials, multimedia presentations, media releases, etc.
  6. Monitor and update WCO's websites, Social Media accounts (e.g. Facebook and Twitter) in accordance with guidelines and standards used throughout the Organization to ensure consistency of approach; liaise with EMRO and HQ to ensure maximum visibility on global and regional social media channels.
  7. Exchange information with relevant communications supplier including video/photographers, graphic designers, multimedia producers, social media specialists, etc and establish a roster of such professionals for WCO's communications needs.
  8. Establish and maintain a network of contacts in the media institutions to ensure the dissemination of information; arrange for interviews and filming opportunities to support high-visibility of WHO country work.
  9. Maintain and update a database of photos and multimedia content for WCO, in various health fields including but not limited to health subjects covering affected populations, health situation, and WHO health response on the ground.
  10. Arrange for and compile material for the communications capacity building workshops for WCO and Ministry of Health and partners.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: University degree in communications, social sciences behavioural sciences, development sciences, public health or related area. Desirable: Training in public health, health education, health communication, orhealth promotion.

Experience

Essential: At least one year of related experience at the national level in media, information and communications. Demonstrated experience in production of communications and social media materials. Desirable: Experience in implementation of media and communications projects, including the development of audio and visual materials and tools. Prior working experience in WHO, the UN, recognized humanitarian organizations.

  • Ability to work under pressure while producing results.
  • Knowledge or sound understanding of the health communications and familiarity with other relevant communications fields such as Risk and Crisis Communications, as well as Social Mobilization.
  • Ability to "think out of the box" and to recommend proposals as related to communication.
  • Tact, discretion and diplomacy.
  • Excellent presentations kills with proven ability to write in English in a clear and concise manner.

Use of Language Skills

Essential: Expert knowledge of English. Expert knowledge of Arabic. Desirable: Intermediate knowledge of French.

REMUNERATION

Remuneration comprises an annual base salary starting at EGP 500,214 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable) and 30 days of annual leave.
