This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of the Head of Innovative Financing Lab of UNDP Indonesia or his/her designate, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

Implementation of Communications Strategy:

  • Design communication strategies, including media strategies;
  • Develop a detailed annual communication workplan and budget;

  • Liaise and coordinate with partners on information opportunities, activities, approaches and platforms;

  • Support events/workshops/seminars and other outreach initiatives planning including managing communications and coordination with event organizers;

Design, administer, monitor and evaluate website, social media and creative content:

  • Manage the website and social media of the IFL and knowledge platform;
  • Plan social media in coordination with that of founding partners, donors and implementers;
  • Source, design, edit and post engaging, high-quality text, video, photo and graphics content across owned social media channels;
  • Collaborate with communications focal points in programme countries and across all partners to develop social media content;

Lead the development and dissemination of advocacy materials in the country and with the UN:

  • Develop and produce communication and advocacy instruments and materials, including briefing materials, press releases, and articles and coordinate its dissemination through effective channels;
  • Identify and launch information opportunities, activities, approaches and platforms and partners;
  • Provide advice on advocacy materials and coordinate launching flagship initiatives and publications in the region;
  • Lead the engagement and supervision of video producers and other communication specialists to produce audio/ visual material on UNDP’s work;
  • Develop brochures, factsheets, stories from the field to inform media and general public at the regional level;
  • Follow guidelines from and report to the Regional Bureau and/or HQ.

Build and maintain s****trategic e****ngagement with stakeholders and maintain relations with donors:

  • Identify and develop new communication/media partnerships and alliances to enhance visibility; manage and nurture existing partnerships;
  • Liaise with advocacy partners and undertake outreach to civil society organizations, governments, and other groups to ensure that newsworthy information reaches the public and donors;
  • Guide and collaborate closely with communication colleagues in UNDP and other offices to ensure consistency

Facilitate knowledge building and sharing:

  • Identify and synthesize best practices and lessons learned from CO directly linked to programme country goals and activities and ensure exchange of information;
  • Provide training and workshops on communication and advocacy as appropriate.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Master degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

  • Master’s Degree (or equivalent) in Communication, Public Relations, Journalism, International Relations and/or relevant field.

Required experience:

60 Months

Experience remark:

  • At least 5 years of professional work experience at national or international level in public relations, communications, or advocacy, including in media relations.

Language skills:

  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent

Area of expertise:

Journalism, mass media and broadcasting, Resource mobilization, partnership and donor coordination, Other communications related experience

Area of expertise details:

  • Excellent knowledge of social media and information technology;
  • Excellent communication and writing skills;
  • Excellent drafting, formulation, and reporting skills;

  • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;

  • Knowledge of and previous experience in UNDP and/or another UN entity is desired;
  • Strong motivation and ability to work and deliver under short deadlines.
