Introduction

Are you a science communicator with a passion for cutting-edge technologies, entrepreneurship, innovation, societal and industrial applications? Are you at ease with different communication styles and audiences, ranging from C-level executives to political stakeholders, scientists, entrepreneurs, engineers, medical doctors? If so, then CERN is looking for you!

You will join the Communication, Marketing and Training section of the Knowledge Transfer (KT) Group. The Group is in charge of identifying and realizing opportunities for CERN's know-how to be applied in fields other than particle physics, in order to maximize the impact of CERN technologies and expertise on society (in particular through industry) and to fuel innovation.

Functions

As Communication and Marketing Officer, you will:

  • Participate in updating and implementing the KT communication strategy, geared in particular towards industry;
  • Lead the communication, marketing, and campaign efforts for IPT Department and the KT Group, overseeing both digital and print content creation;
  • Collaborate with CERN’s Education, Communication, and Outreach Group to align strategies and efforts;
  • Create high-quality printed and digital communication and marketing materials, including annual reports, brochures, presentations, newsletters, posters, and social media posts. Responsibilities include identifying optimal distribution channels, gathering technical input, liaising with external partners, writing and proofreading content, producing audiovisual material, and developing final graphic products;
  • Identify, maintain, and develop tools for marketing CERN technologies and expertise;
  • Develop and maintain the KT websites and their content;
  • Expand and strengthen KT’s presence on social media.

Qualifications

Master's degree or equivalent relevant experience in the field of science/technology, complemented by a degree in science communication and/or marketing or a related field.

Experience:

Required:

  • Experience in professional communication and/or marketing related to science, technology, industry, knowledge and technology transfer, entrepreneurial activities, B2B marketing, preferably in an international environment;
  • Proven track record in science and technology writing tailored to diverse audiences and stakeholders;
  • Experience in a variety of areas including content creation, and development of audiovisual and marketing materials; formulating communication strategies; digital marketing; graphic design software; social media campaign management; evaluation and monitoring of communication and marketing efforts; report writing; event planning; public relations and enhancing public understanding of science.

Desirable:

  • Experience with website design, implementation and maintenance (WordPress).

Technical competencies:

  • Strategic communications planning;
  • Brand management, including the use of social media platforms for brand building, audience engagement, and performance analysis;
  • Science communications;
  • Drafting and writing of official documents: ,including text editing and proof-reading;
  • Internal communications.

Language skills:

  • Excellent command of English for professional communication, including drafting content for publications and official documents, as well as making oral presentations.
  • The knowledge of the French language or the willingness to acquire this rapidly would be an advantage.
