Assist in communication and advocacy for the Tehran Convention Secretariat.
You have:
- Advanced University degree (master's or equivalent) in environmental law/policy/information science or related field of study is required.
- A first level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.
- At least 2 years of professional work experience at the national and/or international level in communication, media or other relevant fields is required.
- Experience in managing and analysing content for social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram and YouTube) is desirable.
- Experience in drafting and editing content, including creating engaging materials (briefs, infographics, videos, etc.) in both Russian and English, is desirable.
- Experience working on communications and engagement with stakeholders in the Caspian Sea region is desirable.
- Fluency in oral and written English and Russian is required.

Result of Service
The ultimate result of services provided by an individual contracted to work for the Tehran Convention Secretariat includes: 1. Communication: • An updated and improved Tehran Convention website, with revised and newly uploaded content. • Content produced for social media and other communication platforms, in coordination with the UNEP Europe Office Communication focal point. • A structured and accessible information database and photo library. • Documented stakeholder engagement outputs, including records of interactions and communication exchanges with Caspian stakeholders. • Compiled and disseminated communication materials showcasing relevant country-level activities. • A set of communication and advocacy products (e.g. visuals, short videos, and written materials) developed to raise awareness of the Tehran Convention, in coordination with the UNEP Europe Office Communication focal point • Donor visibility materials produced in line with agreed requirements and guidelines. • Communication campaign developed for dissemination by the Tehran Convention Secretariat, including media outreach outputs related to Caspian Sea Day, in coordination with the UNEP Europe Office Communication focal point. 2. Advocacy: • High-quality written products, including background papers and analytical notes, prepared and submitted. • Well-documented meetings and conferences on Caspian environment issues, including agendas, background materials, and summary reports. • Clearly structured and relevant meeting agendas, informed by research and aligned with meeting objectives. • Comprehensive background documents and presentation materials developed for meetings and conferences. • Identified and compiled lists of relevant stakeholders and participants for engagement in meetings and events. 3. Translation: • Communication materials of the Tehran Convention Secretariat translated between English and Russian with accuracy and consistency. • A harmonized Russian-language version of the Tehran Convention website, aligned with the English version in terms of content and structure

Duties and Responsibilities
Organizational Setting: The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. UNEP’s mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. The Consultant will report to the Coordinator of the Tehran Convention Secretariat. The consultant will work in coordination with UNEP, through the Europe Office Communication focal point, to make sure that all communication activities and products are aligned with UNEP guidelines where necessary and will be responsible of the following duties; Communication • Update and relaunch the TC website, proposing modern layout and technical solutions. • Develop content for social media channels in relation to the 20th anniversary of the Tehran Convention. • Update information database and photo library. • Assist in promoting collaboration with Caspian stakeholders. • Assist in producing advocacy and communication materials such as short movies, high quality images, and other printed and audio-visual products. • Assist in supporting donor’s visibility efforts by contributing to communication and visibility products customized to various donor’s requirements. • Assist in the creation and promotion of campaigns aimed at local, national and international media on Tehran Convention and achievements in particular in the context of Caspian Sea Day celebrations. 2. Advocacy • Prepare various written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analytical notes, and sections to a report. • Provide substantive support to regional meetings related to marine litter and other relevant topics under the Tehran Convention theme. 3. Translation • Prepare inputs in English and Russian languages on outreach materials for the TC Secretariat. • Harmonize the Russian with the English language versions of the Tehran Convention website.
Qualifications/special skills

Experience in drafting and editing content, including creating engaging materials (briefs, infographics, videos, etc.) in both Russian and English, is desirable. Experience in developing and implementing communication strategies, coordinating with different teams, and communicating complex or technical information to diverse audiences is desirable. Experience working on communications and engagement with stakeholders in the Caspian Sea region and the Caspian littoral states is desirable
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English and Russian is required.
