This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.

The IUNV will be based in Tripoli, Libya.

The UN Volunteer Communication Analyst will be responsible for content collection, stories reporting, managing SLCRR project communication tools, including digital platform for the blog and storytelling. The Communication Officer will also support with the preparation of the communication and visibility plans and ensure timely implementation and respective reporting to donors. In addition, the Communication Officer will liaise closely with the Communication Unit in the provision of updates for media coverage on the SLCRR activities and results.

The Communication Analyst will also contribute to strengthening the management and sharing of knowledge generated by the SLCRR and in capturing and codifying best practices and lessons learnt to peacebuilding and livelihoods pillar. S/he will support also the elaboration of strategies, narratives, analytical documents in relation to project implementation, including the briefing notes, beneficiaries stories related to the Project. In addition, the Communication analyst will oversee content and brand standards across the Project’s web presence. The expected duties include:

• Publication of online content that is clear, concise, vivid, and conveys key messages to target audiences on the web; • Support implementation of tools and processes or Project staff and partners to submit content, share stories and lessons; • Coordination and management up-to-date information and articles, publishing content based on editorial calendar and work plan; • Oversight and suggestion to the team of correct use of brand for articles and multimedia in quality and language on Arabic and English communication products, social media platforms and other communications tools; • Reviews of all content and publications in English and allocated content and publications in English, guided by the UNV programme’s priorities and the Communication work plan; • Management of content for social media platforms in English. • Liaison with other development partners, including AICS and UNICEF on the implementation of the RSSD programme. • Liaison with the rest of the Communications Unit on whether and how material should be presented on the sections of the corporate website; • Creation, implementation, roll-out plans for new tools; • Liaison with external and UNDP contacts on synergies with content and communications projects. • Oversight and the timely development of data collection campaign messaging and branding, including the drafting of official statements, op-eds, press releases, and a social media message plan; • Collection and analysis of data and feedback for reporting on campaigns and events.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:

• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day); • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country; • Provide annual and end of assignment self- reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities.
• Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.; • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers; • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

Results/Expected Outputs:

As an active UNDP team member, efficient, timely, responsive, client-friendly and high-quality support rendered to UNDP and its beneficiaries in the accomplishment of her/his functions, including: • Development and implementation of communication strategy to highlight knowledge and results of SLCRR project; • Roll out of new tools, including social media, storytelling, blogs and campaigns for data collection; • Support donor reporting with knowledge products and communication and visibility plan. • A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for peace and development during the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in and capacities developed

• 3 to 5 years of experience in international development with an international organization • 1 to 2 years of relevant professional communication experience; • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills in English; • Proven analytical skills to collect, synthesize, analyze data for compiled analytical report writing, including identification of lessons learned and risks/issues; • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment; • Experience in storytelling, digital communication and human centered design is desired; • Working experience in MENA region or in a conflict and/or post conflict context; • Working knowledge of Arabic is an asset.

• Have affinity with or interest in international development and volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.

Libya is a unique country and Tripoli is a unique (humanitarian) operation. It provides for an interesting and enriching environment, but also requires a mature level of cultural awareness, as well as more stamina and commitment than elsewhere to make life comfortable and affordable. Therefore, flexibility and the ability and willingness to live and work in harsh and potentially hazardous conditions, involving physical hardship and little comfort, are essential.
