Contract

This is a UNV contract. More about UNV contracts.

Youth Environment Living Labs (YELL) is a joint programme of UNDP Malaysia, Singapore & Brunei Darussalam and UNICEF Malaysia, in collaboration with Amanah Lestari Alam (ALAM), the European Union (EU) and OSK Foundation.

YELL includes the Environmental Education Hub (yell.my) aims to become Malaysia’s central reference point for educators, students, and community members seeking high-quality, accessible environmental education materials. Currently, the database lacks sufficient content. Online Volunteers will directly help populate the hub, enabling teachers and youth to access credible resources on climate change, biodiversity, waste management, and water conservation. This supports SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 14 (Life Below Water) and SDG 15 (Life on Land) by improving environmental literacy and access to learning tools.

We are looking for 10 Online Volunteers who will support the population of the Environmental Education Hub database on yell.my., under the guidance of the YELL Project Associate. Each Online Volunteer is expected to independently find and submit 40-50 unique environmental education (EE) resources. Resource selection criteria will be provided by YELL, including guidelines on language complexity, acceptable formats, interactivity level, and cultural relevance to Malaysia.

Access to the YELL Environmental Education Hub can be found here: https://yell.my/environmental-education

Resources must be distributed across the following user groups: kindergarten (ages 4-6) , primary school (ages 7-12) , secondary school (ages 13-17) , and adults (ages 18+). Online Volunteers are encouraged to aim for reasonable coverage across all four groups, though a primary focus on 1-2 groups is acceptable if clearly indicated.

Specifically, each Online Volunteer will: - Use a provided Google Sheets template to log each resource (e.g, title, description, age group, format, URL, language) - Search for credible online sources following YELL's provided selection criteria - Evaluate each resource against YELL's quality criteria (e.g, bias, timeliness, link functionality) before logging - Collect and log 40-50 unique resources that are ready for database entry Submit the completed dataset by the end of the assignment

Candidates should have a basic understanding of data collection methods, strong internet research skills, and attention to detail. Familiarity with environmental education topics is an advantage. Experience using spreadsheets (Google Sheets / Excel) is required. A professional working level of written English is required; professional working proficiency in the Malay language is an asset for accessing local resources.
