This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.

With the support of UK Aid and FCDO, UNDP in the Kyrgyz Republic, along with UNDP Tajikistan and UNDP Uzbekistan, is implementing a regional project supporting enhanced climate diplomacy. The project supports on enhancing research on climate change to support evidence-based policy formation, enhancing the countries’ engagement with the UNFCCC processes for increased climate ambition, and supporting public education and awareness, particularly among youth.

Under the direct supervision of the Climate Change Analyst, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: - Support development of new project concepts and activity ideas; - Assist in searching, supporting and developing submissions for funding proposals; - Contributes to research on key issues related to environmental policy, climate change, air pollution or/and energy. - Support project team oversight of contractors completing assignments related to envi-ronmental policy, climate change and air pollution; air pollution or/and energy. - Assist the UNDP project team through providing updates on latest developments within climate change negotiations, and air pollution within the region and globally; - Support the UNDP project team to implement activities related to research, engage-ment of governments with climate change negotiations and implementation of the Paris Agreement, youth activities, and activities related to air pollution or/and energy; - Provide support for coordination of donor meetings, and meetings of practitioners, in the field of environment, climate change, and air pollution or/and energy; - Participate in the preparation of Terms of Reference; - Where relevant, as part of a team, support, promote, and attend events with govern-ment, journalists, academia, civil society, and youth; - Support the UNDP project team on communications activities, including developing creating and impactful communications messages, narratives, and communications products to be widely circulated among the public; - Support the UNDP project team to develop impactful and informative information briefs for government, journalists, and academia around climate change; air pollution or/and energy.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to: • Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day); • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country; • Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including par-ticipation in ongoing reflection activities; • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publica-tions/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.; • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers; • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

Results/Expected Outputs • Development of new project proposals on climate change; air pollution or/and energy ; • Development of research on environmental policy, climate change, and air pollution or/and energy; • Strengthening of UNDP’s networks and stakeholder engagement around climate change; air pollution issues or/and energy; • Delivery of successful events with government, journalists, academic, and youth; • The development of capacity through coaching, mentoring and formal on-the-job training, when working with (including supervising) national staff or (non-) governmental counter-parts, including Implementing Partners (IPs); • Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment • A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for peace and development during the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities partici-pated in and capacities developed

environmental policy, climate change, with some knowledge/experience of air quality issues or/and energy • Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded; • Interest in and knowledge of Kyrgyzstan and the Central Asian region, in particular its biozones, geography, and political culture, would be highly regarded; • Previous experience working in a team would be highly regarded.

The position will be based in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan where basic living needs, including accommodation, banking facilities, medical facilities and telecommunications/internet services are readily available. The UN Volunteer is advised to rent a UN Department Safety and Security approved apartment or house. Bishkek is a safe and nice place to live. The city has all necessary infrastructure and services.
