Overview

Assist in managing welfare and client services for UN agencies.

You have:

  • 3 years of experience in management/psychology and operation of welfare and recreational activities to support personnel working in difficult environments.
  • Experience in finance and business administration, social assistance, management/psychology, and operation of welfare and recreational activities to support personnel working in difficult environments.
  • Computer skills, including the ability to operate spreadsheets, PowerPoint, Power BI, and word processing programs at a highly proficient level, and data analysis skills.
  • Previous experience in welfare matters, event management, logistics, and financial management skills required.
  • Fluency in oral and written English; good spelling, grammar, and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and discretion.
  • Knowledge of gym equipment management, Personal Trainer, fitness, or other sports activities is an asset.

Contract

This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

The UNDP Country Office administers and manages common premises and shared services on behalf of the co-located UN agencies, funds, and programs. The Common Premises Unit is established to ensure the efficient, secure, and cost-effective management of all common premises, assets, and services. The unit's objective is to provide high-quality support services to all Participating Agencies, enabling them to focus on their core mandates This United Nations Volunteer (UNV) assignment is part of the UNDP Common Premises (CP) project, and the Client Management and Welfare Assistant will work under the overall guidance and direct supervision of the Client Management and Welfare Specialist.

• Work with the Staff Counselling and Welfare team to make improvements in the working environment and improve the morale and team spirit of UNDP, UN Agencies personnel. • Develop an annual welfare work plan with clearly defined projects and activities. • Develop an annual welfare budget that reflects the annual work plan and project annual income from contractors. • Arrange for quarterly meetings of the Welfare and Recreation Committee. • Identify contractual arrangements required to support personnel welfare, particularly the provision of catering services and managing the performance of these contracts following implementation by the Procurement Unit. • Support in the management of funds generated from contractors' contributions to UNDP and allocate/utilize in accordance with guidance from the Welfare Committee. • Devise, plan, and execute welfare and recreational activities and events. • Actively participate and encourage staff participation in such events and activities. • Creatively develop new ideas and plan for welfare and recreational activities to ensure that activities respect local culture/traditions. • Conduct activities in a manner that maximizes the safety and well-being of all personnel, as well as taking into consideration the special needs of all personnel. • Develop partnerships with various individuals and groups within the UN Agencies, Funds, and Programs, to identify the areas of mutual interest on welfare and recreation. • Identify and encourage individuals to volunteer through contributing to specific welfare and recreational initiatives, create various welfare and recreation support/working groups, sports teams/clubs to facilitate events and activities.

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. National UN Volunteers receive a volunteer living allowance to sustain a basic, adequate, and safe lifestyle. This allowance varies from one location to another depending on local living costs, but all national UN Volunteers in the same location receive the same allowance. Below is a summary of the Conditions of Service. Allowances: The purpose of allowances for national UN Volunteers is to enable the national UN Volunteers to sustain a modest and secure standard of living at the duty station. The allowances are in no way to be understood as compensation, reward or salary in exchange for the volunteer work. Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA): All national UN Volunteers are entitled to a monthly volunteer living allowance of USD 1,951.91. The purpose of this allowance is to cover the basic living costs of the national UN Volunteer, and her or his family when applicable. The allowance is to ensure that the volunteer can sustain a basic, adequate and safe lifestyle. The monthly allowance rate is a fixed rate for the duty station as established by UNV headquarters. Resettlement allowance: Eligible national UN Volunteers are entitled to receive a resettlement allowance upon satisfactory completion of the assignment. The allowance assists the volunteer to reintegrate into society both professionally and personally upon completion of their UN Volunteer service.
