Org. Setting and Reporting This position is located in the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO), Jerusalem. The Claims Assistant will be responsible for all claims related activities for both the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO) and the Office of the Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process (UNSCO). The Claims Assistant will report to the Office of the Chief Mission Support or his/her designate.

Responsibilities The Claims Assistant will be responsible for the following duties: - Assists in the Management of Claims and Property Survey Unit and ensures its effective and efficient operation when required; - Assists in the provision of the secretariat support to the Chief of the Unit, the Chairperson of the local Property Survey Board (LPSB), the Chairperson of the Local Claims Review Board (LCRB) and acts as Secretary of the LCRB and LPSB whenever required; - Initiates the timely submission of the Automobile Accident Loss Reports (AALR) to the insurance representative (Adjusters); - Provides accurate statistics and maintain the claims database and archive system; - Reviews cases pertaining to real estate claims, arranges on-site visits to evaluate damages, identifies discrepancies and contradictions in evidence provided, prepares respective recommendation; - Reviews investigation reports; requests relevant documents and compiles case files; - Prepares justification for the cases to convene Boards or close files requiring no further action; - Provides necessary support throughout Board proceedings (guidance to the Board, research excerpts of relevant UN rules, regulations and policies as applicable); - Follows up on implementation of LPSB and LCRB recommendations; - Updates the Claims and Property Survey database and files with relevant documents and information and maintains electronic and physical records of case files and other documents; transmits case files to UNHQ; - Monitors Claims and Property Survey database and distributes files to relevant offices to ensure that action is taken in a timely manner; - Monitors budget for claims when requested; - Liaises and maintains contact with military and civilian counterparts to facilitate the claims and property survey work and smooth operation of the office; - Provides guidance and daily supervision to other staff in the area of responsibility in close coordination with the Chief of the Unit. - Identifies and resolves issues and problems as they arise, determining the appropriate actions. - Coordinates extensively with service units and liaises frequently with internal team members both at Headquarters (PSB and CRB) and in outstations when required. - Performs other related administrative duties, as required.

Education High school or equivalent diploma is required. Certification in UMOJA Business Intelligence and Power BI are desirable. SCOR-P endorsement and familiarity with International Public-Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) methodology is desirable.

Work Experience At least eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience within the United Nations system or the private sector in fields of administrative services, Claims, BOI or in other related fields is required. Experience in handling various claims (including property, real estate, traffic accidents, injury, insurance); evaluation of damages/losses is required. Previous experience in data analyzing, report preparation and developing respective procedures and policy documents is required. Experience in property loss investigations and/or negotiating conflict resolution is desirable. Demonstrated knowledge and exposure to a substantive field of work in the areas of supply chain management, warehousing, inventory management, logistics and distribution is desirable. Experience in managing property data in ERP systems, as well as experience using International Public-Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) methodologies is desirable.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required.

Assessment Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
