In UNEP the importance of engaging Major Groups and other Stakeholders as partners and ap-preciates the perspectives they bring to the table, valuable research and advocacy functions they perform and their role in helping foster long-term, broad-based support for UNEP’s mis-sion. Intergovernmental decisions will have stronger and broader recognition and support by the public if governments take Major Groups and other Stakeholders views into account as early as possible in policy-making and decision-making processes. Major Groups and other Stake-holders also play a direct role in the formation of policy as researchers, think-tanks, and watchdogs, or through advocacy. The volunteer will support the Civil Society unit based in the Governance Affairs office through organizing meetings, preparing documents and communicating with non-state actors/ major groups and stakeholders. In the process, the volunteer will develop a strong under-standing of global environmental governance and intergovernmental negotiation processes and participatory processes in environmental policy development and processes.
The selected UNV will support the Civil Society Unit in UNEP by assisting in all matters relat-ed to the application of communication and administrative organizational matters. Further-more, the UNV will be in charge for maintaining the unit’s website, supporting the preparation and implementation of virtual meetings, hybrid and in person meetings during UNEA 5.2. and beyond.

Under the direct supervision of Programme Officer, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: • Assist and support the team in the preparation of upcoming UN Environment Assembly (UNEA 5.2.) in February 2022 and all associated events planned • Global Major Groups and Stakeholders Forum • Youth Environment Assembly • Open Ended Committee of Permanent Representatives • Green Tent • Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue during the UNEA 5.2. week • Special Celebration of UNEP at 50 (March 2022) • Preparation towards the commemoration of Stockholm+50 events and celebrations planned for June 2022 • Follow up activities/ briefings and conferences related to Major Groups engagement • Support in any communication related matters on substance: website updates/ social media outreach and email communication to stakeholders • Assist in the registration process and handling of applying participants to the meetings • Prepare questionnaires, surveys etc. in their design and online mode and provide analy-sis of outputs and responses. Results/Expected Outputs: • Well organised and successfully held meetings in collaboration with the team. • Clear and concise communication with all stakeholders achieved in person and online. • Visual aids and presentations developed and delivered • A well-maintained and up-to-date website for the Unit is available • l Meeting reports edited • Positive and encouraging client servicing results achieved.

participatory engagement of stakeholders and civil society actors, especially in environmental and development arenas; • experience preparing communication materials and in preparing and disseminating com-munication and outreach messages and materials; undertaking outreach activities and pro-ject management. • Demonstrated interests in environmental and development issues. Technical knowledge in organising hybrid and large meetings and conferences is considered an advantage. • Previous international experience(s) would be highly regarded; including at the United Na-tions or other international organizations and Non-Governmental Organisations • working experience related to environmental matters, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the 2030 Agenda would be appreciated • Ability to work independently and creatively with minimal supervision; Ability to work un-der stress and tight deadlines; client-oriented; Teamwork; People skills; Ability to work in an international and multicultural environment; • Demonstrated skills in desk research, professional writing and production of communica-tions materials (including simple design) and note-taking. Skills in website management, so-cial media and graphic design are considered an asset.

The Republic of Kenya is an equatorial nation on the coast of East Africa, neighbouring Somalia, Ethiopia, Sudan, Uganda, Tanzania, and the Indian Ocean. Kenya has two levels of Government; National Government and 47 sub-national Governments called Counties. Counties are further divided into sub-counties. Kenya is a multi-party state with Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches. Kenya’s population of more than 40 million is growing at an annual rate of 2.2%. The country’s GNP per capita estimated at purchasing power parity (PPP) is $975, and the GNP is growing at an average rate of 0.1% annually. More than 26% of Kenya’s people live below the international poverty line of $1 per day. Kenya’s main food crops are “maize, wheat, pulses, roots and tubers.” (FAO). Nairobi is a modern metropolitan city where most basic goods and services, health facilities, public transport, telecommunication and banking services and educational facilities are readily available. The city is widely connected through its main airport, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and the smaller Wilson Airport. Air transport is also available to many up-country destinations. The city is home to some 3,000 UN personnel mainly attributed to the fact that it serves as the headquarters for both the UN HABITAT and UNEP. The socio-economic and cultural background of the immediate society the UNV would be living and working in is diverse and prevailing security conditions at the place of assignment is modest. The topographic and climatic features of the assignment location is highland cool and warm tropical climate.
