Contract
This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.
The UN Volunteer will support the implementation of ongoing infrastructure work by monitoring the construction project on-site. The volunteer will be responsible for ensuring that the work is carried out in accordance with approved plans, technical standards, and quality requirements. Additionally, the UNV will help track progress against timelines to support the timely and successful completion of the project.
- Monitor ongoing construction activities to ensure that works are carried out according to approved technical drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
- Ensure quality assurance and control by inspecting materials, workmanship, and contractor compliance with safety and engineering guidelines.
- Track project progress and timelines, identifying any potential delays and reporting issues that may impact timely completion.
- Verify contractor deliverables, such as work completion certificates, site logs, and quantity reports, ensuring they meet contractual obligations.
- Support coordination between WHO, contractors, and relevant stakeholders to ensure smooth implementation and issue resolution.
- Conduct site visits and inspections, providing technical input and guidance as needed throughout the project lifecycle.
- Prepare regular progress reports and documentation for internal use, ensuring proper record-keeping and transparency.

• The duty station is Kabul, Afghanistan, where UN entities operate in a humanitarian/field/post-conflict context. Living conditions vary and may include limitations in infrastructure and services. Security remains a concern in some areas, requiring adherence to UNDSS security protocols at all times.
• Accommodation is generally available through UN-approved guesthouses/apartments inside the UNOCA compound. Access to medical care, banking, and communication is available but may be limited. Power cuts and water shortages may occur, and contingency measures should be in place. Food and basic supplies are accessible inside the UNOCA compound and local markets, but some imported goods may be limited or expensive. • Afghanistan offers a unique and rewarding experience for volunteers committed to humanitarian service. However, it also requires cultural sensitivity, flexibility, and the ability to adapt to challenging conditions. Living and working here may involve physical hardship and limited comforts.
