This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the administrative supervision of UNICEF Chief of Field Office in the Solomon Islands and technical supervision of the Child Protection Specialist (Behaviour Change) based in the UNICEF Pacific Multi-Country Office in Suva (Fiji), or their designated mandated representative(s), the UNV will:

  • Facilitate liaison between remote international technical advisors and local implementing partners
  • Coordinate with other stakeholders to collect information on similar interventions to avoid duplication, identify synergies and opportunities for collaboration and ensure consistency of messaging, in particular with regard to early childhood development and gender-based violence prevention programmes
  • Identify partners and develop partnerships, including between the Ministry of Women Youth Children and Family Affairs (MYCFA) and implementing partners for the community-based programme, with national churches, and with organisations working with youth for the social media component.
  • Contribute to the design and development and/or contextualization of:

(i) implementation strategies and plans, including a vision for longer-term scaling up and a comprehensive monitoring and evaluation framework for the community-based programme;

(ii) training modules for trainers, facilitators, and managers-supervisors;

(iii) facilitation tools;

(iv) IEC materials, which may include posters, banners, radio segments, social media products or others;

(v) management guidelines and tools, including for planning, reporting, reviews, supervision and information management system.

  • Support programme implementation by assisting/mentoring/coaching partners, including managers, supervisors, trainers, facilitators, to:

(i) plan/budget, monitor and report on activities;

(ii) conduct training sessions;

(iii) conduct supervision visits;

(iv) conduct review meetings;

(v) implement the information management system;

(vi) facilitate community dialogues

Monitor activities, provide regular updates and coordinate with UNICEF colleagues and international consultants.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Bachelor degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

Bachelor's degree in a relevant area, e.g. social sciences, communication for development, behavioural sciences, anthropology, development, etc

Required experience:

60 Months

Experience remark:

Area of expertise - Behaviour Change

  • At least 5 years of relevant professional work experience, i.e. experience with social and behaviour change programmes engaging communities, churches, social media and/or youth, developing IEC materials, training modules and monitoring tools, preferably in an area related to child protection
  • Demonstrated facilitation skills with range of stakeholders, including adults, adolescents and children
  • Ability to persuade, influence, negotiate, advocate
  • Adaptability, flexibility, respectful attitude
  • Communication skills, speaking and writing
  • Ability to work with limited supervision

Language skills:

  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
