How can you make a difference?

The Child Protection Officer will work for the UNICEF Egypt Country Office (ECO) and report to the Chief Child Protection.

Under the general guidance of the supervisor, the Child Protection Officer is accountable for providing professional, technical, operational and administrative assistance throughout the programming and implementation processes in the Child Protection section, particularly Children On the Move programmes. The support includes researching, collecting, analyzing, and presenting information by applying theoretical and technical skills while learning organizational rules, regulations and procedures to support the development and formulation of the Child Protection/ Children On the Move Programmes in line with the Country Programme.

Summary of key functions:

Support to programme development and planning

  • Providing technical and administrative support by executing/administering a variety of technical and programme transactions. Contribute to the design and implementation of the Egypt- Sudan Cross-Border Initiative, in coordination with UNICEF MENARO and UNICEF Sudan, as well as relevant ECO programme officers.

Programme management, monitoring and delivery of results

  • Providing technical support, coaching and monitoring to partners on the ongoing expansion of the Family Club model. The activities at Family Clubs include community-based activities for both children and adolescents, the positive parenting program, case management and referrals to the national Child Protection Committees (CPCs). Following up on EVAC in community schools to enhance positive parenting skills of parents and caregivers.
  • Following up the implementation of the SOPs on the Protection and Assistance of Child Asylum Seekers, Refugees, and Victims of Migrant Smuggling and Trafficking in Persons interventions. Coordinating the humanitarian, legal and psychosocial support to children in detention. Preparing inputs for programme and donor reporting.

Technical and operational support to programme implementation

  • Field visits and surveys with partners and stakeholders, providing technical and operational support to government counterparts, NGO partners, UN system partners and other country office partners/donors.

Networking and partnership building

  • Providing support in coordinating, co-chairing and following up on Child Protection Sub Working Group/Task Forces, preparing materials, drafting minutes, following up on action points, coordinating with UNHCR and other key CP actors. Contribute in key meetings with national and international actors for the development of national referral mechanisms.

Innovation, knowledge management and capacity building

  • Identifying, capturing, synthesizing, and sharing lessons learned for knowledge development to to build the capacity of stakeholders. Applying innovative approaches and promote good practices to support the implementation and delivery of sustainable programme results.
  • Research, benchmark and report on best and cutting-edge practices for development planning of knowledge products and systems. Participating as a resource person in capacity building initiatives to enhance the competencies of clients and stakeholders.

To qualify as a champion for every child you will have……

A university degree in one of the following fields is required: international development, human rights, psychology, sociology, international law, or another relevant social science field.

A minimum of one year of professional experience in social development planning and management in child protection related areas is required.

Experience working in a developing country is considered as an asset.

Fluency in English and Arabic are required.
