Lead, manage and supervise social policy programming and advocacy to improve child welfare.

You have:

  • A Master or equivalent (Advanced University Degree) in Economics, Public Policy, Social Sciences, International Relations, Political Science, or another relevant technical field.
  • A minimum of eight years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience in Advocacy, Partnership Building, Data analysis, Budget Analysis, Strategic Leadership is required.
  • Fluency in French and in English is required.
  • Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is desirable.
  • Background and/or familiarity with emergency is considered as a strong asset.
  • Experience in cash transfer program, public financial management is considered as an asset.
  • Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts is an asset.

Contract

This is a P-4 contract. This kind of contract is known as Professional and Director staff. It is normally internationally recruited only. It's a staff contract. It usually requires 7 years of experience, depending on education.

Salary

The salary for this job should be between 121,172 USD and 156,226 USD.

Salary for a P-4 contract in Cotonou

The international rate of 90,970 USD, with an additional 33.2% (post adjustment) at this the location, applies. Please note that depending on the location, a higher post adjustment might still result in a lower purchasing power.

How can you make a difference?

You as the Chief, Social Policy reports to the Representative for general guidance and direction, and is responsible for leading, managing and supervising all stages of social policy programming and related advocacy from strategic planning and formulation to delivery of concrete and sustainable results. This includes programmes aimed at improving (a) public policies to reduce child poverty; (b) social protection coverage and impact on children; (c) the transparency, adequacy, equity and efficiency of child-focused public investments and financial management; and (d) governance, decentralization and accountability measures to increase public participation and the quality, equity and coverage of social services. This encompasses both direct programme work with government and civil society partners as well as linkages and support to teams working on education, health, child protection, water and sanitation, and HIV.
