The humanitarian crisis in Burkina Faso is multifaceted, due to increasing insecurity, the impact of climate change, severe food and nutrition crises and floods. Humanitarian access is shirking so is access to basic social services in the affected areas. Attacks by non-state armed groups (NSAG) persist in 2022, with a total of 844 incidents and 629 casualties (19 children) recorded between January and 16 June 2022. The Sahel, Est, Centre-Nord, Nord and Boucle du Mouhoun were the most affected regions, but an increasing number of incidents are registered in regions such as Hauts-Bassins and the border areas with coastal countries. In June 2022, the government announced the setting up of two zones of military interest, in the Est and Sahel regions, asking communities residing in the zones, to leave the areas.

Under the supervision of the Deputy Representative, undertake a Field Operations coordination role and provide leadership and guidance to Chiefs of three Field Offices (Kaya, Fada and Dori) in the development, planning, implementation, monitoring, reporting and evaluation of all development and emergency programmes. Coordinate with Deputy Representatives, Chiefs of programme sections and operations sections to ensure efficient and effective management of Field Operations and the delivery of results for children. Coordinate UNlCEF's emergency preparedness and response in crisis situations, in full consultation with the Representative, Deputy Representative, Chiefs of Sections and Chiefs of Field Offices.

Achievements in coordination and emergency programmes and projects in turn contribute to maintaining and enhancing the credibility and ability of UNICEF to provide programme services for mothers and children that promotes greater social equality in the country.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Advanced University degree in Social Sciences, Public Administration, Humanitarian Response, Business Administration, Management or other fields related to the work of UNICEF. Training in emergency response important.
  • A minimum of 8 years of responsible professional work experience at the national and international levels in development, recovery and humanitarian response, financial and human resources management, monitoring and reporting
  • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity/background with emergency is considered an asset.
  • Relevant experience in a UN system agency or organization is considered as an asset.
  • Fluency in French and English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
