Background

IRC’s Center for Economic Opportunity (CEO) is a unique Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) Loan Fund and subsidiary of the International Rescue Committee (IRC). CEO specializes in making small-dollar consumer and business loans primarily through IRC’s network of offices across the U.S. that serve over 50,000 refugees and immigrants annually. CEO’s loans are integrated with related economic empowerment programs offered by IRC and support the upward mobility of IRC’s diverse yet economically vulnerable clientele.

CCMA is a coalition of more than 1,100 college and university presidents who are committed to fulfilling the public purposes of higher education. AmeriCorps VISTA helps individuals and communities implement grassroots solutions designed to alleviate poverty. Founded as Volunteers to Service in America in 1965, the program places individuals at nonprofit organizations and public agencies that are fighting literacy, improving health services, reducing unemployment, increasing housing opportunities, reducing recidivism, and expanding access to technology for those living in rural and urban areas of poverty across America.

Position Overview

CEO is a start-up operation, currently managed by a 7-person team and actively in the process of scaling its operations nationally. Reporting to CEO’s Executive Director, the Communications CCMA AmeriCorps VISTA will support development of CEO’s capacity to engage with borrowers and stakeholder via web and social media. Specifically, the VISTA will work closely with the Director and Communications Coordinator to update and implement CEO’s Communications Plan, enhance CEO’s social media presence, support content creation and publishing, and identify and monitor key performance metrics (KPI) to inform impact and iterative cycles of improvement. The position will collaborate with staff and clients of IRC in Baltimore implementing CEO loans and related programs to gain further exposure and context of CEO’s work and the barriers to upward mobility for refugee and other credit-thin households. This position will be critical to building IRC’s capacity by supporting the execution and evaluation of CEO’s Communications Strategy – inclusive of working closely with the director and communications coordinator in growing CEO’s social media presence and playing a significant role in helping CEO establish and build borrower and stakeholder engagement.

Member Responsibilities

The position will have flexibility in taking on tasks within the broader communication strategy that are aligned with the CCMA AmeriCorps VISTA's areas of interest and future career goals, including: social media development, implementation, web development, graphic design, development, testing and refinement of key messaging, and ongoing key performance indicators/data analytics on effectiveness of said efforts.

- Self- starter with excellent problem-solving skills combined with the proven ability to multi-task, prioritize duties, and manage time effectively. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills and an overall ability to be clear and concise - Exceptional organizational skills with proven attention to detail. - Proven ability to contribute both independently and as a key team member. - Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) - Website/Social media experience - Writing experience

Preferred experience & skills:

- Ability to work both independently and in a dynamic, cross-functional team structure - Demonstrated ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels - Ability to manage and work through change in a proactive and positive manner.
