Duties and Responsibilities

The Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) is a partnership of governments, intergovernmental organizations, and representatives of the private sector, the environmental community, and other members of civil society. The CCAC is the only international initiative working on integrated climate and clean air solutions to reduce the rate of near-term warming. It focuses on fast action to reduce emissions of short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs) including methane, black carbon, HFCs and tropospheric ozone. More information on the CCAC is available at: www.ccacoalition.org Zimbabwe joined the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) in 2018. Despite its small contribution to global emissions, Zimbabwe is taking ambitious action to tackle the challenges of climate change and air pollution simultaneously in view of its development imperatives. Zimbabwe has raised its climate ambition by increasing its efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from 33 per cent to 40 per cent in its recently unveiled 2021 Revised Nationally Determined Contributed (NDC). Zimbabwe also plans to reduce methane emissions from the waste sector by 2030, and expanded its mitigation targets to include hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), black carbon, and particulate matter. While Zimbabwe’s original Intended Nationally Determined Contributions focused primarily on the energy sector, its updated NDC includes the waste, energy, agriculture, forestry, and land use sectors. In 2022, the Ministry of Environment, Climate and Wildlife requested CCAC to provide support in integrating short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs) within its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) implementation plan and greenhouse gas emission inventory process. The CCAC is therefore seeking a National Project Coordinator to strengthen the capacity of 2022 the Ministry of Environment, Climate and Wildlife of Zimbabwe for national SLCP mitigation planning, policies and implementation and more specifically the integration of SLCPs within climate commitment plans and inventories. The CCAC National Project Coordinator will sit at the Ministry of Environment, Climate and Wildlife. S/he will work in close collaboration with the CCAC Secretariat team to coordinate the implementation of CCAC projects in Zimbabwe and will liaise with implementing partners to enhance awareness on SLCPs.
