Conduct research on different private sector companies operating in Kazakhstan and synthesise findings to complete UNDP's Due Diligence template which determines whether the agency should enter into a formal partnership with a private company or not. Research will include an analysis on the company's mission, vision, and values, as well as its corporate policies, best practices in relation to human rights, labor rights, and the protection of the environment, sustainability efforts, and whether it complies or not with UNDP's exclusionary criteria. Similarly, an analysis of whether the company has been attributed with controversies or not will need to be included. Each UNV will be assigned an approximate of 3 private sector companies to carry out 3 due diligences in total.

We are looking for 3 of Online Volunteers who have experience in research with excellent writing skills. The task will include the following responsibilities:

  • Conduct research on different private sector companies operating in Kazakhstan and synthesise findings to complete the Due Diligence template
  • Identify and gather primary and secondary sources for the analysis of different private companies operating in Kazakhstan against UNDP's due diligence criteria
  • Conduct research on good corporate practices, sustainability and social corporate responsibility efforts, as well as the existence or absence of different corporate policies on human, labor, and environmental rights
  • Identify any controversies that might be associated to the private sector company and include the status of said controversy (whether it has been resolved or whether it is still ongoing)
  • Develop a short summary on the findings of the company

The average estimated workload is expected to include roughly reviewing 10 documents (although it might be more than this), which can include corporate reports published by the company such as its GRI report or sustainability report, corporate websites, secondary articles such as newspaper stories studies, etc. throughout the assignment duration.

The Online Volunteer/s will have the opportunity to build connections with the Gender Teams at UNDP's Regional Hub for Latin America and the Caribbean as well as the Gender Team at UNDP Kazakhstan and learn about how fostering partnerships with private sector companies can contribute towards sustainable development.

Candidates should have strong research and analytical skills. Background knowledge and working experience in Kazakhstan and within private sector environments is desirable. A degree in Administration, Communications, International Relations, Journalism or Economics is considered an asset.
