Contract

This is a Professional contract, Grade 7 (NRC) contract. More about Professional contract, Grade 7 (NRC) contracts.

An exciting new role contributing to NRC's efforts to reduce our environmental impact around the world. The primary focus of this role will be developing monitoring of our carbon footprint and communicating data to drive action.

Background

The climate and environment crisis is the defining challenge of our generation. As an organisation working with the world’s most vulnerable people, the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) observes first-hand that those who have contributed least to the climate and environment crisis are also those hardest affected by the consequences. NRC recognises our own responsibility to minimise harm to the environment caused by our greenhouse gas emissions and direct impact of our programmes on the local environment. A Strategic Enabler: “Reduced Environmental Footprint” is part of NRC’s Global Strategy 2022-25.

An important factor for NRC to achieve our objectives is monitoring our environmental impact and providing data that can track our progress and inform decisions to reduce emissions. NRC has calculated a baseline emissions footprint for 2019 based on the international GHG Protocol and now needs to move forward with regular monitoring, reporting and communication of data.

The purpose of the Carbon Accounting Coordinator is to develop and implement a monitoring system for NRC’s emissions footprint, and develop communications products that put relevant data in the hands of decision makers and engage staff throughout the organisation.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Lead the development of NRC’s carbon emissions monitoring and communicating data to drive action.
  • Develop efficient collection of relevant data from NRC systems (Finance, Logistics, Flights, HR, M&E) and collaborate with focal points for those systems to address issues of data completeness and quality.
  • Develop methods of collecting required data currently not present in NRC data systems then pilot and implement those solutions.
  • Evaluate and improve emissions analysis and align with interagency initiative.
  • Calculate NRC’s annual emissions footprint using the system developed.
  • Develop dashboards, intranet pages and slides to communicate NRC’s emissions footprint and compare it over time.
