Over the last year, UNESCO has started the implementation of the project “Preservation and Promotion of the Bamiyan Valley through Culture-Oriented Sustainable Development” (PPBV. The project will focus on developing a Management Plan for the Bamiyan Valley within the more general framework of a Strategic Master Plan that was formulated by the University of Florence and a Scheme for an Archaeological Park in Bamiyan. The aim of this project is to enhance the capacity of the Government to protect and manage the archaeological remains and the cultural landscape of the Bamiyan Valley through an integrated approach that combines direct conservation actions along the main Buddha Cliff with the preservation and valorization of their context. This approach will provide the Afghan authorities with operational connections between the World Heritage property and its cultural environment, regarded as a critical component for its long-term preservation. At the same time, local communities will benefit from the creation of cultural public spaces and services that will favor a more inclusive approach to cultural sites, will create immediate employment opportunities, and contribute to the development of sustainable tourism. The project will lead to the following main expected results: 1\. Strengthen the national capacities and operational framework to preserve and manage the cultural landscape of the Bamiyan World Heritage site; 2\. Contribute to community empowerment by creating public cultural spaces and employment opportunities for heritage management; 3\. Promote scientific analysis for the stabilization of the Buddha Cliff and contribute to its valorisation. Long Description ---------------- **Description of the Assignment** The assignment for which national professionals will be hired is to prepare a Management Plan (MP) for the protection and management of the Bamiyan Valley within the framework of the Bamiyan Strategic Master Plan recently completed by the University of Florence and to set out the determinations for the creation of an Archaeological Park. The activity will include the preparation of an urban catalogue for elements of cultural value (historical; archaeological; cultural landscapes, etc.), which will benefit of the documents and information previously produced and collected for the Cultural Master Plan and Strategic Master Plan. The MP will be elaborated in close cooperation with Afghan authorities (MoIC, MUDH and the Bamiyan Municipality), and in coordination with the other relevant institutions. Regular workshops will be organized with stakeholders and the local community to ensure that the process is fully participatory. A Road Map for the drafting of the Management Plan and the formulation of proposals for the Archaeological Park has been prepared by UNESCO and will serve as guideline the planning activities. Work experience • Minimum 4 years of operating a GIS system compatible with ArcView, in urban planning schemes. (Mandatory requirement). • Excellent interpersonal, communication and team-working skills. Languages • Good command of English, both written and spoken. • Fluency (written and spoken) in Dari and Pashto.
