ABOUT WFP

The United Nations World Food Programme is the world's largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. The mission of WFP is to help the world achieve Zero Hunger in our lifetimes. Every day, WFP works worldwide to ensure that no child goes to bed hungry and that the poorest and most vulnerable, particularly women and children, can access the nutritious food they need.

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

Assisting 86.7 million people in around 83 countries each year, the World Food Programme (WFP) is the leading humanitarian organization saving lives and changing lives, delivering food assistance in emergencies, and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience. WFP Armenia Country Strategic Plan (CSP) 2019 — 2024, building on past and current experience, foresees significant strategic investment in the establishment of a comprehensive and strategic response to food insecurity, malnutrition, and poverty. The four main pillars of WFP's CSP 2019 — 2024 are the continuation of its school feeding programme with a clear handover strategy for a full ownership of the programme by the Government of Armenia by 2023; the establishment of effective and sustainable, nutrition sensitive food value chains; support to the Government in tackling malnutrition; and emergency preparedness and response. Capitalizing on current and present outstanding achievements, WFP and partners enhance focus on nutrition. WFP enhances nutrition education and behavior change for healthy meals and makes the school feeding programme more nutrition sensitive. Simultaneously, WFP supports communities, provinces, Ministries, and the Government of Armenia to strengthen their capacities for improved national policies, programmes and systems. Given the above and taking into consideration the upcoming scaled-up activities, the WFP Armenia is currently seeking to hire this role to support the Country Office (CO) to provide technical assistance to the Ministry of Education, Sciences, Culture and Sports in piloting of the in-school healthy lifestyle (HL) clubs in the framework of the state curricular reform.
