Promoting volunteerism for peace and development is an integral part of every UN Volunteer assignment.

Under the direct supervision of Head of Support Services and the direct supervision of the Logistics Officer, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: He is responsible to abide by security policies, administrative instructions, plans and procedures of the UN Security Management System and that of UNOPS. Efficient Transport Support, focusing on achievement of the following results:  Fleet Vehicle Management:  Conducts distribution of non-expendable transport assets; Conducts bi-annual physical inventory of non-expendable transport assets in accord-ance with the established procedures and deadlines;  Conducts periodic  Monitors monthly mileage and fuel consumption reports for UNMAS ve-hicles and generators;  Supervise drivers ‘activities; Maintains records for non-expendable transport assets, including records in fleet management databases;  Participates in the development of the Transport Section’s annual budget proposals;  Processes the vehicle write-off cases in accordance with the estab-lished procedures and deadlines;  Processes vehicle accident reports and participates in Boards of Inquiry;  Raises Damage Discrepancy Reports. Maintenance Workshop duties: Coordinates, under the guidance of the Logistics Officer, the mainte-nance and repair of UNMAS vehicles and generators in accordance with the vehicle and generator manufacturer’s standards;  Under the guidance of the Logistics Officer, develops and reports to document workshop performance (including personnel matters), vehicle warranties, vendor support and other workshop related activities;  Assist in developing and electronic vehicle monitoring system and Fuel Tracking Tool;  Carries out diagnostics and identifies reasons for technical faults; Per-forms corrective and preventive maintenance on UNMAS vehicles;

Experience of working with UN peacekeeping missions is desirable; Previous experi-ence in hardship duty stations is an asset;

Mali is a non-family duty station. Living conditions of Bamako are acceptable, but security instructions need to be strictly complied with. Adequate housing is available for rent at US$ 500-1500 per month. The national currency is the Franc CFA (November 2021 exchange rate was 1 US$ = 572.08 FCFA). Visa credit cards are accepted in some hotels and larger shops. Mali is a country prone to malaria, so mosquito nets are highly recommended. Basic medicines are available from pharmacies, but provision needs to be made for specialized medication. Security recommendations from the UN Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) must be followed by all UN Staff, including UN Volunteers, in the course of their assignments in Mali. Appropriate measures are in place to mitigate the current security risk for UN personnel in the country. All UN Volunteers, like all UN personnel, undergo a security briefing and the 3 day mandatory training “Safe and Secure Approaches in Field Environments” (SSAFE) upon arrival, where practical guidance and recommendations are provided regarding security threats in Mali. An additional security briefing is provided upon arrival to the final duty station. For the sake of rewarding experience, UN volunteers in Mali carry out their duties with flexibility, commitment, and a willingness to live and work in challenging conditions including heat and limited water and electricity supply.
