Org. Setting and Reporting The Trade and Market Intelligence (TMI) is part of the International Trade Centre’s Division of Market Development (DMD). It has developed a range of tools for strategic and operational market research, focusing on products and markets of interest to developing countries and economies in transition, assessing sectoral and national trade performance and trade competitiveness. In parallel to the development and implementation of its market analysis tools, TMI delivers trainings and capacity building programmes on market analysis and research for effective export marketing and strategy development. Drawing on the data and analytical indicators in the tools together with additional desk and empirical research, TMI also conducts studies and analyses tailored to the needs of trade policy officials in national ministries and trade support institutions focusing on strategies for improving trade competitiveness and identifying opportunities for product and market diversification. The goal of this job function is to support the team working on a new Competitiveness Observatory for the West African region and other trade-related subjects by conducting statistical analyses, delivering capacity building trainings and helping with the preparation of customized studies.

Responsibilities Under the direct supervision of the Programme Officer, and the general guidance of the Head, Trade Data, Tools and Analysis, the incumbent will: - Assist in designing, organizing, planning and managing the collection, evaluation, analysis, compilation and dissemination of statistical data to measure trade competitiveness, regional value chain indicators, and other trade-related indicators. - Assist in developing, implementing and managing statistical database(s) - Assist in trainings and technical support on trade competitiveness, trade, market access and export potential analysis and other related information. - Assist in the development of marketing materials for ITC’s work on trade competitiveness and regional value chains. - Prepare draft technical documents for international, intergovernmental and expert group meetings and assist in drafting relevant reports. - Assist in the organization of seminars, working groups and expert meetings. - Guide, train and supervise junior consultants in the team. - Perform other duties as assigned.

Education An advanced university degree in statistics, mathematics, economics, sociology or related field. Note: A first-level university degree in the areas mentioned in combination with two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience Applicants to positions at this level who have an advanced university degree in a relevant field of study are not required to have professional work experience. For applicants who have a first level university degree, two additional years of qualifying work experience is required.

Experience in statistics, finance, accounting or related area is desirable.

Experience in the field of international trade and value chain analysis, is desirable

Experience of statistical software packages such as SAS, Stata, R, Python or similar is desirable.

Languages For the position(s) advertised, fluency in both English and French is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

Assessment Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which will be followed by competency-based interview.
