Org. Setting and Reporting This position is located in the Communications and Events section of the Office of the Executive Director (OED) which is responsible for corporate policy, operational and strategic planning, governance and ensuring that trade development contributes to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. The Digital Communications Unit is responsible for ITC’s website, social media channels, e library and Client Relationship Management system. The goal of this job function is to coordinate the planning and publishing of digital content on ITC corporate digital channels.

Responsibilities Under the direct supervision of the Public Information Officer (Digital Communications) and the overall guidance of the Chief of Communications and Events, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Tracks, researches and analyzes information on assigned topics/issues; gathers information from diverse sources and helps to assess news value and other potential impact, as well as to evaluate the effectiveness of digital communications campaigns.
  • Drafts digital communications products for target audiences, to include social media posts, reports, briefings, website pages, etc.
  • Organizes the planning, clearance, production and distribution of digital communication material; conducts photo and graphic research.
  • Prepares, on the basis of official UN documentation and other sources, initials drafts of texts for inclusion in UN newsletters and digital platforms.
  • In consultation with others identifies and proposes communication opportunities, activities and approaches, taking into account the situation/topic and target audience.
  • Identifies key contacts/constituencies and opportunities for strategic partnerships to facilitate communication efforts and maintains working relationships with the same.
  • Provides substantive support for digital communications policies and guidelines, to standardize and facilitate ITC’s digital communication workflows.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Education A first-level university degree in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration or related field. An advanced degree in communication, journalism or related field is desirable.

    Work Experience A minimum of four years of experience in public information, journalism, international relations, public administration or related area is required.

    Candidates who have completed an advanced degree (Masters or equivalent) may be considered with two years of qualifying experience. This is desirable.

    Experience in social media production including drafting, publishing and reporting is desirable

    Experience covering economic and trade issues is desirable.

    Experience in a multilateral organization on strategic communications, editorial and multimedia content is desirable.

    Experience in graphic and multimedia tools such as Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Premiere, Illustrator, InDesign) is desirable.

    Experience of a social media management software such as Sprout is desirable

    Experience of website content management systems such as Drupal is desirable

    Experience of data analysis systems such as Google Analytics is desirable.

    Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in both English and French is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
