Capacity-building programme for the nomination of World Heritage sites in the Africa Region, funded by the Japanese Fund in Trust (JFIT). 2. Supporting Capacity Building for Nomination Projects and promotion of WH Sites in East Africa funded by the Sultanate of Oman. Long Description ---------------- In particular, s/he will : - Contribute to the management of the project (planning, coordination, implementation, monitoring and reporting), in close cooperation with the partners and stakeholders involved. - Contribute to the preparation and follow-up of the detailed activity programming for each of the different activities, including the preparation of contracts, follow-up on contract-implementation, budget management, organization and facilitation of expert meetings, and reporting. - Participate in the preparation, organisation and implementation of capacity-building activities such as training, and awareness raising, in consultation with the relevant partners and States Parties. - Support the organisation of international and national experts’ missions on the field. - Draft, review comprehensive briefings and reporting on the projects' achievements, including the final project report and evaluation. - Prepare and coordinate the communication and monitoring of the activities. - Participate in the organisation of promotional activities such as side events during World Heritage events including Statutory meetings, online exhibitions, etc. **COMPETENCIES (Core / Managerial)** ------------------------------------ Communication (C) Accountability (C) Innovation (C) Knowledge sharing and continuous improvement (C) Planning and organizing (C) Results focus (C) Teamwork (C) Professionalism (C) **-** ----- For detailed information, please consult the [UNESCO Competency Framework](https://en.unesco.org/sites/default/files/competency_framework_e.pdf). **REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS** --------------------------- ***Education*** - Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in the field of cultural and/or natural heritage, history, social sciences, archaeology, communication, or a related area. ***Work Experience*** - A minimum of 1 year of relevant professional experience in the field of cultural and/or natural heritage or a related area. - Experience in designing, managing and implementing projects related to the field of cultural and/or natural heritage concerning multiple countries in the African region. Long Description ---------------- ***Skills/Competencies*** - Strong written and oral communication skills, and a high level of drafting skills. - Strong coordination and interpersonal skills. - Ability to work in a multicultural environment and maintain effective team cooperation. - Ability to take initiative and to manage competing priorities, with a strong capacity for accuracy, close attention to detail and quality of work. - Excellent IT skills, including in standard office software (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). - Good skills in using social media and mobile applications to advocate for the outcomes of the project. ***Languages*** - Excellent knowledge of English (both written and oral) or French and good knowledge of the other language. **DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS** ---------------------------- ***Education*** - Training in the field of communication, cultural heritage or a related field. ***Work Experience*** - Relevant experience with UNESCO and understanding of the organization, including its administrative procedures and financial process. - Proven experience in working with a country to support the development of nomination dossier, preferable in Africa. Long Description ---------------- ***Skills/Competencies*** - Knowledge of the World Heritage Convention and its processes, particularly, the nomination process for a country with no property on the List. - Knowledge of the cultural and natural heritage field in the African region. - Knowledge of UNESCO and its cultural Conventions and programmes. - Ability to coordinate projects related to cultural and/or natural heritage (preparation of proposals, design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation), overseeing project execution ensuring consistency and timeliness. - Capacity to build partnerships and coordination with a wide range of partners and stakeholders within and outside the Organization. ***Languages*** - Knowledge of Chinese or Arabic languages would be an asset to facilitate communication with potential donors and institutions in these regions who have shown the willingness to support the implementation of Priority Africa (Flagship programme 3) to strengthen the representativity of Africa on the World Heritage List. **BENEFITS AND ENTITLEMENTS** ----------------------------- UNESCO’s salaries consist of a basic salary and other benefits which may include if applicable: 30 days annual leave, family allowance, medical insurance, pension plan etc. The approximate annual starting salary for this post is 53 739 US $.
