The Section’s work is guided by the UNESCO strategy for gender equality in and through education 2019-2025, and its three pillars aiming to support: better data to inform action for gender equality in and through education; better legal, policy and planning frameworks to advance rights; and better teaching and learning practices to empower. The Section supports coordination across UNESCO to ensure coherence, complementarities and synergies within UNESCO’s Education Sector and across UNESCO programme sectors, field offices and institutes, as well as with external partners. It also leads and contributes to many initiatives aiming for collective action with civil society, academia, bilateral and multilateral agencies and the private sector to advance gender equality in and through education. The Section also supports capacity-development of the gender architecture of the Education Sector to ensure sufficient capacity for mainstreaming gender equality in UNESCO’s assessment, planning and proposal development processes, as well as in monitoring, evaluation and communication of work on gender equality in and through education. The incumbant will work closely with Programme Specialists and Project Officers, and liaise with UNESCO country offices and other relevant Sectors to support the monitoring of UNESCO’s work on gender equality in and through education, capacity-strengthening to mainstream gender and support gender-transformative programming in education, and cooperation mechanisms managed by the Section to advance UNESCO’s work on gender equality in and through education. Under the overall authority of the Assistant Director General for Education, overall guidance of the Director ED/ED2030 and the Chief, Section of Education for Gender Equality (ED/E30/IGE), and the direct supervision of the Programme Specialist in the Section of Education for Inclusion and Gender Equality (ED/E30/IGE), the incumbent will undertake the following tasks and responsibilities: Long Description ---------------- 1\. Support the monitoring of UNESCO’s work on gender equality in and through education 1. Liaise with UNESCO HQ colleagues, Field Offices, Institutes and partners to collect information on UNESCO’s work in this area for reporting and communication purposes 2. Support the analysis of workplans and reports on UNESCO’s work on gender equality in and through education across all Expected Results areas 3. Support the development and roll-out of tools to collect and document good practice 4. Support the development of knowledge products and reports documenting progress, good practice, issues, challenges and opportunities, recommendations and future priorities, including in particular the annual report on UNESCO’s work in this area Long Description ---------------- 2\. Support the mainstreaming of gender equality and gender-transformative programming in the Education Sector 1. Propose and support the delivery of guidance documents to improve UNESCO staff’s understanding and skills to design, deliver, monitor and evaluate gender-transformative programme in education 2. Contribute to the design and delivery of capacity-development activities for UNESCO HQ, Field Offices, Institutes and partners to mainstream gender meaningfully into education programming 3. Provide support to the network of gender focal points in education including the collection and dissemination of tools, resources and opportunities; the organization of brown bag seminars; and responding to requests for assistance. 4. Support the production of a wide range of content (website texts, brochures, posters, infographics and other audiovisual materials) documenting good practice by UNESCO in designing and delivering gender-transformative programming Long Description ---------------- 3\.
