(The role of this vacant position does not include responsibility for UNESCO's wider external communications, which is managed by the Division for Communications and Public Engagement.). Under the overall authority of the Assistant Director-General for Communication and Information (ADG/CI), and the direct supervision of the Chief of the Executive Office (CI/EO) and the Chief of the Freedom of Expression and Safety of Journalists Section (CI/FEJ), the incumbent is responsible for providing technical, coordination, research and analysis, and monitoring and evaluation support to the implementation of Major Programme V (Communication and Information), including on extrabudgetary funding, and cross-sectional work, including for programmatic initiatives. Long Description ---------------- Phase I (est. 6 months) - Support CI/EO’s overall coordination activities, including through the preparation and consolidation of briefings, correspondence, speeches, reports and other contributions; monitor, process and synthesize Sector-wide inputs, in view of the preparation of these documents, while ensuring quality control and accuracy - Assist in the coordination, monitoring and reporting on the implementation of the Programme and Budget (41 C/5), including through SISTER and for the preparation of statutory reports to the governing bodies - Contribute to the preparation and follow meetings of UNESCO’s governing bodies, by monitoring the preparation and ensuring the timely delivery of statutory documents, and support reporting and follow-up on CI-related items and decisions - Contribute to the development, monitoring and evaluation of partnerships and voluntary-funded activities of the Sector, by analyzing and compiling background data for potential partnerships and fundraising opportunities, ensure the preparation of briefings in view of meetings with partners, and carry out backstopping in support of resource mobilization for Headquarters and Field Offices. - Perform any other tasks as assigned. Long Description ---------------- Phase II (est. 6 months) - Provide technical, programmatic, and administrative support to the implementation of project activities under the project “Support to Afghan Media Resilience to Foster Peace and Security” funded by the Neighborhood, Development and International Cooperation Instrument-Global Europe (NDICI-GE) of the European Union, including the monitoring and reporting on project activities, by assisting in information gathering, preparation of project documents and reporting to the donor and liaison with the relevant UNESCO Field Office, implementing partners and other internal and external stakeholders. - Contribute to the implementation of communication efforts by drafting communication materials, including news reports, press releases and other relevant documents to enhance the visibility of project activities under the EU-funded project. - Assist in the organization of conferences, coordination meetings, events, and workshops related to the EU-funded project, including the preparation of agenda topics, briefings, meeting minutes and summaries and facilitating stakeholder engagement. - Support CI/FEJ’s overall work in Afghanistan and beyond on implementing the UN Plan of Action on the Safety of Journalists and the Issue of Impunity. This includes assessing project proposals for quality and consistency. Identifying project delivery issues and ensuring effective coordination of project resources. Work closely with national counterparts to build cooperative relationships and establish the organization as an effective partner. - Perform any other tasks as assigned. Long Description ---------------- **COMPETENCIES (Core / Managerial)** ------------------------------------ Accountability (C) Communication (C) Innovation (C) Knowledge sharing and continuous improvement (C) Planning and organizing (C) Results focus (C) Teamwork (C) **-** ----- For detailed information, please consult the [UNESCO Competency Framework](https://en.unesco.org/sites/default/files/competency_framework_e.pdf). **REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS** --------------------------- ***Education*** - Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in communications, international relations, public policy or other relevant field. ***Work Experience*** - At least 2 years of relevant professional work experience in project planning, coordination and management, and/or in communications acquired at the international level. - Experience in drafting and reviewing strategic documents, such as policy briefs, analytical notes, publications, speeches, reports and articles. - Solid experience in conceiving and managing international projects throughout their cycle, monitoring implementation and reporting deadlines, while ensuring results are aligned to performance indicators. - Experience in planning and organizing large-scale/international meetings and multi-stakeholders’ workshops. ***Skills/Competencies*** - Excellent analytical and drafting skills. - Excellent communication skills (both written and oral), and ability to exchange, develop and summarize concise information on complex issues. - Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a multicultural environment, with external and internal stakeholders. - Excellent organization and planning skills, including the ability to organize own work priorities, take ownership of assigned duties and tasks, and work independently towards their completion.
